Hey guys!

First post, but a quick search on these forums as well as google didn't provide anything too useful for solutions, so I thought I would ask for you expertise with my problem.

Issue: When running R4i Gold cart, i get a strange menu with icons but no text (see pic 1). I can access a GBA game (if inserted), but no text or prompts are available.

My question: Do you guys know whats going on? I've tried a few things (formatting tools, different kernels, etc.) but nothing seems to work. I wish to use the cart to back up my GBA cartridge saves. I think I need to be able to read menus to access those...

Hardware, Other Info:
R4i DS gold cart (see pic 2). Purchased from [http://www.dsflashcart.com/r4i-gold...-p-248.html?zenid=5qtechq4rasv2bu5sc8cldmgu4] in late December, 2014.

?? (Found in other person's post with similar problem) [http://www.r4isdhc.in/download_white_new2013/R4isdhc-White1.62.rar]

Thanks guys, I appreciate your advice ahead of time :)

Hey guys, sorry for super necro, school keeps me away for periods at a time.

Tried formatting (as per the guide Digital linked) with the SD Formatter.

Still getting black screen upon startup (this time with none of the icons in the picture above) with both WoodR4_v1.64 and WoodR4_v1.22. I've been extracting to the root, as per the screen shot below.

Any thoughts?

I haven't. I'll try to pick up another one in a week and get back to you.

Do NOT use SDXC, correct?

You can try SDXC as long as the format is FAT32 although it's not recommended to use SDXC. A small 2GB for testing should do
