Can somebody make a guide on the fact that R4s are different, and there was the original R4 and now there's clones and even carts that call themselves the same thing (like R4 SDHC) can have like 10 different versions, and shit for one type often doesn't work on another?

Most people don't know that and it'd be helpful.

They already have that and it's that mega list that guy posted, it shows all clones and information. Also you said you don't want information on it but you do want information on it? o.O

You all assume that people coming here already know that "R4" is not a single company and the concept of clones in general and that firmwares fore them are often non-changeable and all that shit?

A lot of people don't. We see it every day. We know it, but most newbies don't, and the guide assumes that the reader already knows it.

So I propose a separate thread with static info, like I listed in my first post and this post.

Not the info in that thread, because while it's good it's also dynamic info and of a different type.

I think I see where you're coming from...

I'll see how I can incorporate that into the mega list.

Should be done by tommorow/day after, which is when I'll finally update it.

Basically, a total noobie guide.

From what I'm gathering, it needs to be done well enough so that a nub to the scene knows the difference between the R4 and the R4 Upgrade, as well as the differences between the R4-SDHC and the R4i-SDHC, etc. The differences expand beyond a name, which is what many people new to the scene don't understand. You can tell them it's an R4 clone, and it will just bounce off with no real effect, as they don't have any clue what the hell you're talking about.

It doesn't help when clone teams make a clone of a clone, as then people believe it is by the same team because of the name, regardless of the fact that it wasn't on the products tab of the cart they already own.

It's a confusing world to somebody new with the many R4's out there. It needs far more clarification than what is currently available.

I'm working on it already.

What I'm getting from this is "Hey, yo man, Wood won't work on yo' cart, cause see how the cart is called a "R4 Upgrade"? Yeah, Wood only works on certain carts." "WTF DO YOU MEAN????!?!?!?!? ITS AN R4" "The name "R4" is..." and you see where this is going.

Awesome. I'll be anticipating the final result.

I've been half meaning to do something like this since I've been on another forum that I frequent for over two years, but I never set aside the time, no matter how much of it I've had.

I got that from one of my friends, but she was stupid and kept insisting that since R4 was in the name of her cart (she got an R4i SDHC Upgrade), it should have worked with Wood R4. And that it should work with Wood R4 because my R4 works with Wood R4. Even though I explained it to her that our R4s aren't the same and hers wasn't ever able to be used with Wood R4. Thank god I was able to convince her to buy an Acekard 2i later.
