Hacking R4 save files question

Hi,

I have a question regarding the save files. I've got a r4 clone, 2gig micro sd with wood 1.58 firmware. For some reason all my games keep freezing now, and I want to clean the sd card (maybe try different firmware). Question is, if I put back the games with their save files, will the r4 automatically integrate those save files with the game? I would assume so, but about a year ago I tried the same thing (with 1 game) and it just created a new save file (can't remember if the old one got lost though).

Flash carts associate saves with games depending on the filename, so it shouldn't be an issue.

That's indeed what I thought, I figured I'd rather post a question though than risk all my save files. Thanks for your answer!
