Hacking R4 Revolution question....

My friend lend me his R4 Revolution, I was wondering if I can install R4 Wood on it? Or Akaio 1.8.1? The download links are here:

He has no experience in this as he hasn't used his DS for a year, and I'm completely new to this so not sure what to do follow either...

Depends on what R4 he has.
If it's the original R4 (Says ONLY R4 Revolution for DS (NDSL/NDS)) then yest, WoodR4 will work.
If it's an R4i Gold from http://www.r4ids.cn/ then WoodR4i Gold will work
If it's an R4 Ultra, then AKAIO will work.

Otherwise, no.


Get Wood from here: http://gbatemp.net/t268348-wood-firmwares-v1-19
If it's not from Another World on GBAtemp/FileTrip, it's not official.

I heard Wood will work fine with Golden Sun Dark Dawn?? Man this is so confusing, i've been researching many flash carts and all the different things u need to know for 3 days straight, it's like a cluster here......

Same cart shape too? Straight sides with a notch cut from the top?
If so, it's an original original R4 with spring loader (sold with optional cases or your choice of cases or two cases IIRC).
Spring loader was removed, top leveled off and notches in the side were added for the re-release.

Either way, it should be able to run WoodR4 (not Gold) fine.

hmm dunno about the cases as it's my friend's card and I doubt he remembers since he got it a year ago.

But i can say that when i insert the card, it does have a spring mechanism feel, you can push it in and push it again to pop it out, feels natural and normal to me.

The part where you insert it in is rounded on the edges, and the bottom and sides are straight.

Just try both firmwares. It wouldn't hurt to do that. Don't worry nothing bad will happen.

ok i just downloaded the v1.9.1 R4 Wood kernel and replaced it on my memory card, turned on DS and YAY it showed the Wood R4 menu (background is brown and shows by GbaTemp) and i then loaded up Golden Sun Dark Dawn and WOOT it worked fine!!

I've only loaded up to the menu of the game, haven't played it yet but i'm so filled with excitement right now that i decide to post this first.
