    Hello!

I'm currently running my nintendo switch on CFW via Hekake (i have Auto RCM) and im on v 5.1.0, and as i've heard soon the 6.0 update is comming and i've been abit over the top of my head how things work around Online play, The thing is, im very much into online play, and was originally planning on buying this nintendo premium member thing for 20 bucks a month.

So here's my question, since im on Auto RCM (and have nand backup before itook auto rcm) can i restore the nand, launch (OFW) if such a thing still exists, if i launch my nintendo switch normally, without hekake, then to proceed to update my nintendo switch to 6.0 (when it gets released) and then play my legitimate nintendo switch games, which i have on cartridges/or downloaded via e-shop without the risk of being banned or anything? Is there even a chance i can still be banned after doing all these steps? even being on 6.0. on OFW without even launching hekake? or does anyone know how this work? Am i Safe? Will i be able to join and enjoy the good old online play again if i do it like this?

I would think you're as safe as you'll ever be doing that. As long as your console wasn't ever online with CFW that is, and you restore the nand to the pre-auto rcm firmware, I can't see how they could know the console had ever run homebrew.

What matters not when you activated autoRCM, but rather if you've been online since you've made that NAND backup.
As it seems what matters to Nintendo is CONTINUITY.
i.e. it seems it is confirmed that someone was banned for clearing their logs.

So if there were any new logs made (AND sent to Nintendo) since that NAND backup was made, those logs will disappear when you restore your NAND, and Nintendo can seemingly notice logs that went missing.
So it'd be best if you've never been online since you made the NAND backup, and don't go online without restoring your last NAND backup. So yeah, I have to ask if you've been online since then.

Although I think @Draxzelex started asking the "NAND backup/restored?" question quite late in the ban thread, so we're not REALLY sure how safe/dangerous this entire thing with NAND backups and missing logs is, AFAIK.

Thats the thing, i dont recall ever going online on CFW, apart from maybe downloading some games via the e-shop on "stock" in hekake on auto rcm, and started mario oddesey once...so maybe i should be safe? idk?

Not just CFW, I said if you've never gone online AT ALL since the NAND backup was made, whether CFW or stock/OFW.

Here's an example of what I meant by CONTINUITY:
    • A new log was made by your Switch last month (dated Aug 31)
      • Switch sends log to Nintendo, Nintendo records last log as dated Aug 31.
    • You made a NAND backup yesterday (Sep 2)
      • Latest log stored in NAND backup is dated Aug 31
    • then you go online today (Sep 3) in OFW to "download eShop games"
      • while online, your Switch makes a new log (dated Sep 3)
      • Switch sends log to Nintendo, Nintendo records last log as dated Sep 3.
    • You restore your NAND tomorrow
      • Your Switch will suddenly report to Nintendo that the latest log it has is dated Aug 31.
Big N realizes the Sep 3 log went missing, and logs CANNOT be deleted without hacking your Switch.
    You MIGHT be flagged then.
(Disclaimer: this is not how it works exactly, I don't know the details/actual internals of logging, this is just for illustration purposes)

Hence the SAFEST practice is to ALWAYS follow these steps IN ORDER:
    1. delete your WiFi settings
    2. make NAND backup
    3. if you EVER want to go online, even in OFW, restore NAND backup first
    4. if you want to use CFW, you need to redo steps 1-3, i.e. make a NEW NAND backup
Well... now it seems your best choice right now though is to restore your NAND backup and hope for the best. Keep us updated in @Draxzelex's ban thread if you stay unbanned or not. :P
As AFAIK, little info is known about safety of the logs in NAND backups when restored.

As bundat has put it, the chances for getting banned for restoring a clean NAND is close to 0% and I don't know a single person who was banned for doing so. I did make the mistake of asking whether or not people do this very late in the game however I think its safe to assume everyone who was banned so far did not do this as Nintendo's history of banning people is rather shoddy. However the LayeredFS bans as well as the SX OS bans are proof that Nintendo has clearly stepped up from a security standpoint.

Just to reiterate, the best practice is as follows:
    1. Make a clean NAND backup before hacking the console in any way, shape, or form
    2. Stay offline with all hacks via your preferred method (Airplane Mode is not sufficient as it can get disabled)
    3. When planning on going online, restore the NAND backup

The real question is whether you burned any fuses when you upgraded. If you did it's a moot point since you cant downgrade and then use OFW with burnt fuses.

I don't think OP wants to downgrade, they just want to update and "go clean" with Big N's blessing.

If the NAND backup was made before any hacking was done, you can but the risk of getting banned is never gonna go away. Now realistically I don't expect you to get banned for doing so but I also won't say the risk is absolutely 0%.
