I want to be able to install non-legit cias, but I play local Smash/MK7 with friends.
Should I wait and deal until eventually CFW comes to 10.3? Or Downgrade to 9.2U?
And if I did downgrade:

Questions if downgraded...
  • Would I lose the ability to play with those on 10.3
  • Would I still be able to play games such as Binding Of Isaac Rebirth that I have the 9.6+ "fix"

I've downgraded and have been able to play smash cia with updates applied and fw spoofed just fine online. Just have to search for the fw spoofed stuff can't link any here.

I had the same questions, maybe this will help you make up your mind: https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/3zonfy/is_it_worth_downgrading_my_n3dsxl/
As far as I understand, you can get cryptofixed versions of the games that are 9.6+ which will let you play them regardless. You can also get FW-spoofed versions of games so you can play online despite not being on the latest FW. Here's the thing, I'm in the same position and I don't want to downgrade, find out I don't like it, then not be able to upgrade again cause I'll lose ironhax cause I formatted SysNAND. My view though is this: downgrade now (or when KTM comes out) but do it before 10.4 is released. Before unlinking your NANDs and setting up everything, etc etc make a NAND backup of your system. Then try out EmuNAND and all of that non-legit jazz. If you end up not liking it, you can restore your NAND backup to your SysNAND and it will be exactly like it is now (but on 9.2), including Ironhax. That means once you update the Ironhax payload for the latest FW, you can just update back to the latest FW if you dislike the hassle of being on 9.2 and you'll have lost nothing. I think I'm personally going to downgrade before 10.4 comes out (so I have a softbrick safety net) then sit on 9.5 EmuNAND 'till someone amazing figures out how to crack 9.6+ EmuNAND on N3DS and just try and deal until then.

I'm really liking 9.5 EmuNAND so far and haven't had any issues. I auto boot right into rx and EmuNAND so I never touch SysNAND.

Do you guys know if Zelda Triforce Heroes requires fw 9.6+? If yes, is there a cryptofixed version? I have a SKY3DS and a N3DS, so the point to get the downgrade is to play the new games that SKY3DS can't run. Zelda is one of them.

How would I backup NAND? I haven't been able to find anything related to it.
Without hardmod, you can't back up your current sysNAND, you would have to downgrade first, then use either EmuNAND9Tool or Gateway to back up your SysNAND.

Definitely! I've been playing with my downgrade all day! I've installed rxTools and I've installed several CIA's! The question I have now is what's new that I can do? Haha

I have been able to run the game and find the fw spoof update for it as well so I can play online which I have. It took a little digging to do. The first update cia I downloaded caused the game to hang when started. Second one I found worked perfect.

To anyone who has downgraded a NEW 3DS, is it possible for you to link to the guide you used? There's many downgrading guides up and some are vastly more successful than others.

Also for the micro sd card file transfers for the n3DS, will I need a Micro SD Adapter or can I just get by with everything using the network file transfer in the system settings?

I recently formatted and reupdated my 3ds because I didn't like emuNAND (I uninstalled it the right way though) because I couldn't figure out how to get into BrowserHax (it wouldn't work on sysNAND after I installed the MenuHax on the EmuNAND) I DID HOWEVER create a sysNAND backup! I lost IronHax :,( Can I still restore the 3ds using the backup? Also how? I tried using Gateway and It said I needed a gateway.dg file where do I place it on my SD card?
