hi Tempers !! I am currently trying to buy a Nintendo switch and i can't simply choose which model i want!

I really love the Grey Nintendo Switch lite but im not so sure as i want to hack if for Homebrew and emulators and maybe use it for linux and android but primary i want to use it to play paid original nintendo content like the zeldas and marios.

What i really want to know is it better to buy an original model for higher price ? or buy a lite i want the best if lite have problem i wanna know all its problem and best feature for both version(idc if older or mariko version for normal switch) .
Thanks for all suggestion including adaptors/case/etc and sorry for bad english.

Well if you find an unpatched original switch, You can mod it for free with just software. Marikos and Switch Lite consoles require a $60 mod chip and is a very advanced install so if you're not good at soldering you will need to pay an additional $60 to have the chip installed for you. I don't believe you can run Linux or android on a mariko or lite unit yet, I believe once they get atmosphere running with the SX modchips, You will be able to run Linux and android. I believe one of the main reasons why you cant is because hekate isn't compatible with them yet. The SX chips Can help you use mods and hacks in games, run homebrew, runs emulators that run on the switch itself, And run backups of games. Emulators won't really be worth buying a chip just for that in my opinion, you would be better off getting a controller for your smartphone for a lot cheaper. Anyways, if you're not experienced in soldering, that switch lite well cost you $360 For the system itself, the mod chip, and the installation service. In that case you're probably better off going to game stop and finding a used unpatched switch ( Just be honest with the employee and tell them you need a switch with a specific serial number. Unpatched units on eBay are really expensive right now).

Now, if you decide to get a switch and not mod it, Just keep in mind the switch and switch lite Isn't like a playstation 4 and a playstation 4 slim. In playstations case, the slim is an upgrade, but the switch lite is a downgrade. It can't be connected to your TV at all, the controllers can not be disconnected for multiplayer, and if the joy cons get joycon drift, it's not as simple as just buying new joy cons and sliding them on. Also the joy cons don't have any rumble in the switch lite.

If I missed any information just let me know and I will try to answer the best I can

Thanks i already have a ps4 pro ,i really want a switch mainly for zelda and marios i will have one switch lite to test tomorrow if it please me il keep it. For Modding i can wait for that i got a new 3ds xl mod/hacked so i dont really need to emulate and i got a phone for heavy emulation(gamecube,n64,dreamcast,etc) and i never use rumble i hate that thing (eats my ps4 controller battery like nothing)i read about joycon drift but nintendo fix policy is on point even after 30 days retail warranty so no worrys about that.

Now that i will get one lite tomorrow , should i get a cooling grip ( i heard about heat battery problem ) and i seen review about some that cool it to 20-24 Celsius what about powerbank or any other accesories for the lite and what games you recommand (fps, open world, rpg, jrpg, survival) and for the zeldas and marios game i want them all lol!
Thanks in advance

If you're gonna start piling up crap on top your lite it removes the point of a lite, which is to be smaller, lighter, and cheaper. If you're worried about battery and heat, just get a V2/Mariko switch, even if you don't plan on using the dock hardly ever.

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

    I dread the price point.

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

    To me that seems reasonable.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150

Yeah it's all choice and that's a good thing :)
