IF I already have YSMenu on my DS do I have to follow the guide again to update it to the most recent version or is there a quicker way?

Depends on how old your version of YSMenu is.....
The latest version of YSMenu is 2009/03/27 00:00?EZ3in1+ NOR, so unless your YSMenu is older than March 27th, 2009 you should not need to "recompile" YSMenu. But you can still update by copying updated infolib.dat, extinfo.dat and savlib.dat files to your TTMenu folder.

http://sites.google.com/site/weeklyinfolib/ -- Includes (U) updates, but not the fastest.
