Hardware Question about the dvd drive

ok so i took out my wii dvd drive since it died. its a dms from early 2006
i was wondering is any dvd drive from another wii compatible with it or which one is the best to get. and if i get one of the newer models, would that diminish my hacking ability?

As far as I could remember, every drive out there is compatible.

Just DO NOT get the new drives, the D3 and D3-2. Those won't read burned backups
