Seems like you can't share saves between friends or even on non-steam versions of the game.

Any way around this or is your save forever useless should something happen to your account?

you can share saves with no problem.. you just have to copy the save files depending of the game, what game are you trying exactly?
the issue you probably having (i am guessing, not sure if its the case) is related to windows protecting the programs folder against modifications

if you want to share games. that is another matter...

Well, I thought some games are tied to your steam ID. This way they appear as corrupted if you try and play them with an account that didn't create them.

Like, Resident Evil 6 for example. I'm pretty sure it works this way. But I'm not trying to find a specific answer for a specific game. I'd like to know if there is a universal method for the various games that function like this that I could learn.

I think you need to hex edit this sort of stuff but I wouldn't even know where to begin, especially if it's different between games.

Depends on the game. Some games you can't share saves however for most you can. All you have to do is find out where the save is located and copy it over. I do a quick search on the games community hub for "save data" and see if there is a topic on it.

Game Save Manager could work

Yeah. I'm pretty sure this is how it works but isn't there a way to get around this with file editing to remove the ID check or whatever?

Edit:

Gamesave manager wouldn't happen to 'decrypt' the save right? This situation seems sort of like how it is on a 3ds.

i never encountered such a thing like save lock to account or something like that...
i never had problem loading other peoples saves, other than windows fucking up with the permitions in the programs folder

just copy the files to the right folder.. some games do save in my documents folder, others save in appdata, others in steam user data, but all you have to do is copy and paste.
there are some cases where you copy cfg files that may cause some confusion like someone playing a game configured for a 4k resolution screen, and the game will try to launch in that resolution and your screen goes mad

steam also has the cloud save sync thing, you may want to disable it to prevent some mix up like restoring the older save, maybe that's the issue you are facing?

tell ya what, send me a pm, i let you add me on steam and we can save swap to try it

I know how to copy files to the right folders. It's for ID locked games such as the one described in this thread: http://residentevilmodding.boards.net/thread/7605/tutorial-use-downloaded-savegame-files

I imagine you could do something like this for every game that is in a similar situation but... is the procedure the same or different for different games lol? Seems like a huge pita.
