Hardware Question about playing wbfs off a usb drive

Where does the save file go? Does it go into the USB, or into the Wii? If it goes into the Wii, can I put the same wbfs into another HDD and still access that save file?

The save file is saved on the Wii, just as if you were playing a disc. And just like if you were playing with a disc, using a different disc or USB drive would still result in you accessing the same save file on the Wii.

To clarify, moving your HDD to another Wii would not move your save file.
For that, you should install Savegame Manager GX on the HDD.
