I have A9LH installed and am using SysNAND. I heard some people regularly backing up their NAND. What does the NAND Backup save besides getting the 3DS to work having a unique encryption for your SD Card files? Aren't all saves and CIA stored in your SD card?

A nand backup is in case you do something to the point where you brick your 3ds. If you brick you have a back up that you can restore. The only thing is you have to have a hardmod to be able to inject a nand backup into the actual nand of the 3ds. Most people don't hardmod unless they brick, so its always a good Idea to have a backup handy.

You can also restore NAND backups with Decrypt9, but that requires 9.2 or A9LH, of course (and a mostly working system; in the case of A9LH all you need is for A9LH itself to be intact).

The NAND contains your system firmware, and a few config files (e.g. parental control PIN, NNID info, serial number, etc.). Keeping backups of it let you restore it as if nothing ever happened to your 3DS, same as if you backed up a failing hard drive. Most game saves and applications are stored on SD, yes, but others like DSiWare are saved and stored on the actual NAND itself.

Keep regular backups (and copies of those backups in the cloud like Mega or Mediafire, in protected zip files) and you'll go a long way if disaster hits.

I already know that NAND Backups are for to restore in case you brick your 3ds. Thats one of the reasons why I installed a9lh. If i dont use dsiware, regularly backing up NAND is unnecessary right?
