Hey guys

Currently I'm still using my original 3DS XL. I have a combination of Gateway and RXTools 2.3-hacked (the original build that leaked which bypasses the signature checks), though most of the time I use RXTools. For O3DS it's simple enough, I have my browser set with http://launch.rxtools.net in its memory so I just tap the browser icon, wait a few seconds and I'm in.*

With the New 3DS, having to load Gateway using Ocarina of Time is a bit annoying, as it's much longer than using the browser. So something occurred to me - themehax! I installed Themehax and set it to auto-launch unless I press B upon boot. Then replacing boot.3dsx with Gateway's homebrew app, and viola, it auto-boots to Gateway mode with just a small delay at boot.

But I'm looking for a CFW I can use without needing the red card. For playing ROMs, I can certainly use the Gateway (or for things like RAM editing) but 95% of the time I just play my installed titles and cartridge games (GW Classic mode).

I see on the list of homebrew that RXTools supports N3DS now (never did before, did someone take over the code once Roxas stopped?) but do you guys have any other suggestions? I've heard that PastaCFW is buggy. I don't need debugging or anything fancy, literally just a way to run emuNAND (like GW classic mode.) Something I can start using a boot.3dsx from Themehax.

What do you guys suggest?

*Honestly, I prefer this version over the newer builds Roxas did with "official" sigpatching, those have been a lot more buggy for me. As much as the automatically-booting-RXMode is nice, I had a lot more crashing issues with those than in 2.3 or 2.4. So this hacked 2.3 works for me.

Oh, I suppose I should mention, I updated to 10.4 emuNAND now that Gateway supports it. Do any of the other CFWs support it yet? RXTools on my O3DS does fine, but I know they didn't change the crypto like on N3DS.

Both Rei and Cakes support 10.4 emuNAND on N3DS, just not RxTools.

Sweet, thanks. Do one or both of those patch signature checks too? In case I want to install SaveDataFiler to use with my retail carts (hence why I can't do it in Gateway mode)

They both do (but by default, Cakes doesn't boot emuNAND nor patch signatures, so make sure to turn those two options on; it's pretty easy to find the options when booting it for the first time).

Hm, OK.

So is Rei better than or should I just use Cakes and set the options?

Basically what I want is something I can launch through ThemeHax automatically into emuNAND. So I'd cold-boot my N3DS and it would load boot.3dsx (which is actually one of these CFW loaders) and voila.

If it's a "set and forget" type of thing I can use Cakes since I've heard good things about that. Any other differences between the two? Or is it just "pick the one you prefer" type of deal

They're both pretty much the same. ReiNAND's splash screen is pretty.

Yeah it works great but it's the obvious Ds factor you loose from it it's not like playing atari games on atari because Nintendo actually use to give a reason to buy their hardware
