Like SOPA and PIPA, GBAtemp needs to be active in putting a stop to this bill before it even gets started. There isn't much attention towards it yet which means not many poeple have noticed it. Thus we need to start bringing attention to it APSP.
This so far is the only site I have found about it

http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm

Anymore information and such, please post it and show your support on stopping this bill or any other future bills like like.

LOL I have a bad feeling that this is just the beginning and it's going to drag out for years until the U.S. gov't eventually wins. Anyway, putting it off is better than doing nothing. I'm with ya, Catboy.

With that said, we need to stop them and show them that we are the ones in control and the more they hold us back, the stronger we will get. We are the future, their time is limited and the older they get, the stronger we will become.

Anything like petitions, I hate writing to politicians, I had to do it once already. I don't like to write legal papers

Writing to a politician is not writing a legal paper. Just send them a somewhat formal e-mail (references to oral interactions between the politician and your genitalia are ill advised) explaining to them... a) why you don't support this piece of legislation, b) why they shouldn't support it, and the big one, c) if they help the bill pass, you will not vote for them in the upcoming election. Encourage your friends to do the same thing so your Representative knows that you aren't the only one behind this.

Believe me, that will send a far more powerful message than a one second signature on an online petition ever could. Is it really so hard to do a little work?

You didn't really just make a V for Vendetta reference?

V for Vendetta was about an incredibly authoritarian government of the future that was evil enough to demean anything from Islam to homosexuality as a crime against the state and even release a deadly virus just to win the election.

Our government is democratically elected. It doesn't fear the people, it's a representation of them. It's why SOPA was stopped and it's built by the people, for the people. Britain's regime in V for Vendetta and America's current government system couldn't be farther apart.

But at least people here are actually doing something like writing to their politicians instead of the slacktavist "petitions" they always do that surmount to nothing.

I like the movie :ninja: As well I find his quotes hold a lot of power behind them and stir up a lot of mixed feels for people, something I think needs to be done to bring attention to this subject.

As well despite being elected officials, I don't see how bills like these that spy on people and restrict the freedom of speech are clearly not in the best interest of the people and need to be stopped in their tracks. Otherwise who knows where one bill will lead. It start here, who says it will stop here?

I like the movie too but I think too many people became an overnight freedom fighter because of it and thought that they're just a glorified Evie, blind to the totalitarian world around them even when they're living in a democratic society that not only gives them life or liberty, but offers them the pursuit of happiness. I just don't want people applying everything from V for Vendetta to a government that greatly benefits them in every way.

I see your point, I just thought the quotes were fitting for the situation. As for comparing it to the movie, I had to intent on doing that since clearly we are no where near that bad a state.

Aww great theres more of this shit after SOPA and PIPA?

Why can't people just leave the bloody internet alone

Anyway i'll be happy to show my support against this bullshit.

To be honest the internet still does need some type of policing. It can't just be a Wild West. As long as there's still child pornography floating around and the ever-popular "gore shock videos", the internet is not a perfect place. I think it needs policing, but piracy really shouldn't be the first thing they tackle.

Okay I agree that it should be policed because of shit like child porn and yea I guess those gore shock vids as well but I can't see why no one wants to just target that but to target piracy as well. I'm all in support of getting rid of child porn off the internet but never to get rid of piracy (i'm sure its obvious why) but if it tries to get rid of both then I just can't support it.

Not saying this is actually helping getting rid of child porn but yea.

I mean personally I wouldn't like piracy going away but what's the old saying, "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few"? It's whatever Spock said in Wrath of Khan. I mean piracy is a rather moral shithole and yeah, it's not direct stealing, but I think anyone who says it doesn't hurt the industry is kidding themselves.

I'm actually seeing myself move away from piracy a lot anyways. I started using Spotify so I don't need to pirate music, I subscribe to Netflix so I can watch most movies, and the consoles I buy for nowadays (Xbox 360 and Vita) I don't pirate on anyway.

I think piracy is an issue that eventually needs to be addressed legally, no matter how much people may hate it, but it just needs to be approached right. Right now their approach is dropping a guy on fire into the ocean when all they need is a bucket of water. Their legislation is too "broad" and too much of a "shot in the dark" philosophy, but they'll be shooting a shitload. It needs to be targeted in a way that wouldn't affect a non-pirate but would effectively stop it as a whole.
