Hey I'm quite new to 3DS homebrew and I was wondering, how can I get PSX emulation on my 3DS? I saw the video below and tried it myself using the newest nightly build of Retroarch but it ran at 12 - 17 FPS. Is there anyway I can make it run better? I've got a N3DS so it should be powerful enough. Does anyone have any configuration tips to make it run like his 3ds?
Thanks in advance

You could try to turn off audio in the audio settings. That gives it a good boost when I play Crash Bandicoot.

"...
(you can get near full speed with cia version on new 3DS, by disabling Audio/video synch (Settings>Audio>Audio Sync Enable OFF and setting sound resampler (Settings>Driver>Audio Driver>Audio) to "Nearest") (DONT FORGET TO SET IT BACK TO NORMAL AFTERWARDS SINCE RETROARCH CONFIG IS SHARED ACROSS CORES FOR NOW)"

From the Retroarch thread.

Are you using CFW/the CIA version? That's one reason why the user in that video has decent/good speeds.

I was wondering how do I go about running a .CIA file? Is it the same as running a 3DSX file or do I have to run it differently? Also is what's a CFW file?

I'm not overly sure what a CFW file is but if it helps I'm running a 3DSX file using menuhax.

lol a CFW isn't a file, it stands for Custom Firmware (a copy of your internal NAND, but stored on an SD card, which can be patched through CFW loaders such as RxTools, ReiNAND, etc.) But you need to be on 9.2 or under to install CIAs!

Oh thanks! My 3DS is running at 10.5 so I can't get CIA files running then. Does running Oothax make frame rate better or are they just doors?

CFW isn't a file, it stands for Custom Firmware, like the PSP scene term. CFW lets you run CIA files (which are like WAD files from the Wii). CIA files can do whatever they want, including things like dynamic recompilers (which is how emulators like Dolphin, PPSSPP, PCSX-ReARMed, etc., on computers and phones get good speeds). Since you're more or less asking what these are, we can assume you don't have CFW. What firmware is your 3DS on? If it's low enough, you could install CFW (or downgrade and then install CFW), in order to run the CIA versions to get better performance.

Ninja'd: Saw 10.5. On 10.5 you can't get CFW without a hardmod + downgrade.

Without CFW, don't expect PS1 to run very well. The New 3DS, even though it's clocked much higher than the O3DS, is still not capable of running PS1 at full speed without CFW, basically.

It won't help any. *hax are just entrypoints. Running the emulator directly within the NAND (with a CIA) is the only way to get "decent" speeds.

Your *hax entrypoint (OoThax, Ninjhax, browserhax, etc.) shouldn't matter; they all get the same 3DS service priveliges (less than what a CIA file can get). CIA programs can access all the required services to make the PSX game run a lot faster, so that's why the .3dsx version of PCSX is always gonna be slower than the .CIA version.

Not to mention without kernel access for proper hooking, performance is gonna be shoddy at best.

You can run .CIA files by installing them via a CIA installer; FBI, and BigBlueBox come to mind. And, I'm pretty sure daxtsu meant, "Are you using Custom Firmware," not a CFW file, which (to my knowledge) does not exist.

Regardless, he's on 10.5 and won't be able to use CFW without a hardmod.

That's a bit of a bummer I don't wanna go poking around in my 3DS' innards so I that kinda throws PSX out the window. Is there any other ways to run it or is that the end of the story?

That's pretty much the end. Though there are modders here that'll do the mod for you if you feel comfortable enough to send your system to them.

That's pretty much the end of the story, then.

And, I'm pretty sure daxtsu meant, "Are you using Custom Firmware,

That's exactly what I said. I never asked if he was using a CFW "file". I said, "Are you using CFW/the CIA version?" which was asking "Are you using Custom Firmware, or the CIA version?", just in a shorter-hand form. It wasn't the best way to word it, I'll admit.

Thanks, I've been wondering about that but I didn't want to delete my OoT saves so that clears something's up.

I don't think I'll mod my 3DS so I guess that's the end of PSX emulation on my 3DS.
