Gaming Psx Cheats

Ok. So I use cwcheat sometimes. In my plugin folder there are cheats for psx as well, but I can't make them running.
I activate cwcheats by pressing L+R+down and it works, but when I press it when psx game is running (chrono cross) nothing happens.
So how to activate it?

Are you doing this for activating codes or cwcheat? Because to activate cwcheat you need to hold SELECT button for a few seconds, and so is activating cwcheat for psx games.
