Hello. So I got my friends PSP, which was Pandora battery cfw hacked to version 3.4 he claimed. He wanted me to update it to a newer cfw to play newer games because I told him I knew how, but I was unaware it was already hacked. When I tried to upgrade to ofw 6.6 I got a (DADADADA) error. I searched online and was told to recover the system to 1.5 through revovery mode, and a special recovery folder. I did it, and am on version 1.50. But it wont let me do any updates to any ofw. it says "The system configuration of this PSP system does not appear to be correct the update cannot be started Contact technical support for assistance (DRNFFFFFFCD).

Does anyone know what to do?

Change the kernel back to 3.xx in recovery and follow this (from Rydian's "How to Softmod" sticky):
If you are currently on an older custom firmware (such a 5.x or 3.x) then you might just be able to run an official update and jump right to the hacking steps, but if the PSP gives an error when you try then you will need to flash-install a clean original firmware before you can upgrade to 6.20 or 6.60. This is done via Hellcat's Recovery Flasher and a copy of the original firmware to flash.
  1. Download Hellcat's Recovery Flasher, and add the RECOVERY folder to your PSP's GAME folder.
  2. Download the Official Firmware 5.00 firmware file (search google for this), rename EBOOT.PBP to 500.PBP, and stick it in the root of your memory stick.
  3. Run Hellcat's, and hold L+R+Select while it's loading. When it runs it may warn you if you have GAME plugins enabled, and it will disable them, simply run Hellcat's again.
  4. When it loads, confirm your choice to enter advanced mode.
  5. At the second (garbled) warning, Select I AGREE, now take me to the program!
  6. At the main menu, make sure that Target FW is on 5.00, then go down to /! Install clean ORIGINAL FW (DANGEROUS!!!)
When the process is done you should be on a clean version of 5.00. This will ensure that you can properly upgrade to the latest firmware you want to hack.

A video of the process is located here.

I wouldn't jump at anything for the time being. Sounds like it may be a patched key 5 issue, so you'd be advised to grab Keycleaner and run a check/fix.

If you cannot use Keycleaner (this one any good?) than you'll need to set up Despertar del Cementerio v8 and use it to regenerate your IDStorage keys and flash a 5.00 CFW. Whether or not you need a Pandora battery depends on whether you can get any homebrew working at all.

Yes then you'll need a Pandora battery, and to run DDC v8 to regenerate your IDStorage prior to an update. Or potentially use DDC to run elfmenu and perhaps run Keycleaner that way.

OK so I got my pandora battery, but when I start the PSP screen it wont work, its just a black screen. What do?

what about creating a magic memory stick . You need that to use the pandora battery, if it not then the battery will be useless. Ahhhh these terms bring back good memories :)

Haha, thanks, can you guys post a guide for how to make a magic stick? I dont have one.

Take a regular stick, shove up unicorn arse.

Magic stick.
