howdy temper's.

all i can find are out of date reports on this subject saying 16GB is the maximum capacity the psp can use, all depending on the firmware.

i'd like to upgrade to the highest capacity my psp300x can handle, without sacrificing read speeds.

can anyone recommend a good card? and do the "pro duo mark 2" cards perform noticeably better?

thank you very much

i do believe that they raised the cap on memory after a certain firmware update. there are people who claim they use two 32gb msd cards and an adapter without issue. with that said, is there a pro duo larger than 32 gb?

i've read that the sandisk ultra II pro duo is one of the fastest, but you will pay a pretty penny for one. sandisk also made a "faster" version they dubbed the "gaming memory stick". they are in a translucent case, usually red or green. i've read a lot about people who use those and really love them. i do believe that they never made those larger than 8 gb. i personally have two 16 gb sandisk pro duo cards and i haven't had a single issue with them.

sony did release the pro-hg duo, which is listed as having faster speeds than the regular pro duo. however, from what i read it accomplishes this with an extra set of contact pins, something the psp can not make use of. i spoke with a few people who showed me photos of the old pro-hd duo packaging, and it stated on it that it was not intended for the psp.

whatever you go with make sure its legit. there are a lot of fake/clone pro duo cards on the market. the first thing you'll want to check from within the psp is if it is magic gate supported. that is usually the mark of a genuine memory card.

I have owned a Lexar 32GB Pro Duo which worked well. I heard the 64gb option with the photofast adapter is slower transfer wise.

thanks very much Another World. I was actually looking at getting the sony pro-hg, with it boasting faster transfer speeds and the 'cool' red stripes on it, because naturally, anything red has to be fast. contact pins the psp can't even use, lifesaver.

looks like 32GB is the way to go.

cheers. :yay:

Standard capacity for a PSP is 32GB max IIRC, but with CFW it's possible to have the card accessed with the full 2x32GB via the adapter. It's a bit of a hit and miss with the adapter, but as the cards aren't that expensive any more, I'd go with the 32GB without the adapter.

The advent of 6.xx firmwares completely removed the size cap of 32GB on PSP's - that used to be a limitation, as that was the largest available MSPD, however Sony had plans of releasing much higher capacities and thus the limit was removed. The plans never came to fruition, but that's besides the point. I've heard that some CFW coders looked into the issue and figured that the limit was in fact 256GB, however without work-arounds, it's not even possible to reach it. That, and I've never seen a PSP with a working 256GB storage device connected to it, so I cannot verify that.

I've seen people use adapters to achieve 64GB storage, I've seen people using adapters to connect portable drives to the system, I'm pretty sure that at this point, you can throw anything at it and it'll work.

It's less a matter of the firmware, more a matter of the adapter you're using. If you intend on using MSPD though, the limit is 32GB. Good luck finding a stick like that though - they're pretty rare from what I heard.

2x 64GB Micro SDs in one of them adapters does work also, and is probably the best price to size ratio you'll get. (Adapter was £3. Micro SD cards were £35 each so £73 in total for 128GB) . I know a few people on here have had issues with reliablity this way but speaking from experience, ive not had a single issue. So long as you dont take the micro SD cards out of the adapter and do all of your file transfers via the PSP with a USB cable, you shouldnt run into any issues. ( I believe my micro sd dual adapter is fake also.)

Yes, file transfer speeds aren't great (took me about 5 hours to write about 115GB of info) but in all fairness, once you've done it once, your never really going to do writes that big again so apart from the initial wait, its a non issue.

Im using CFW 6.60 PRO-C so im not entirely sure what the Magicgate part does anymore, or even if it matters but ive run into no issues with anything PSP, PSX, Homebre etc

I run 2x64GB micros SD's and never had a problem. I think the reliability issues come from the adapters. I know I had problems with some photo fast adapters in the past. But after trying a different model adapter, never had a problem again. Card reads a little slow when accessing video's and games, but with the memory card speed up in Pro-C, seems to help.

Id had slowdowns that begun to annoy me when loading up the games etc but got around it by wiping the card, and installing the Game Category plugin so now each folder isnt jam packed with content and its back to loading up really fast again.

That of course, works too. I, myself is just to lazy to do that. The slow down with the memory stick speed up, does not bother me. So I'm good. I just hope we can get a 128GB micro sd card soon.....
