So, I've been poking around on the internet, and have learned that the PS3 can play PSP games with some clever hacking. And they look great, too! And it can even be done on official firmware! However, I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble or the possible risk. Can PSP games be run on the PS3 using the current official firmware? Is there a list of compatible games? How long would it take to do this? I'd love to know more about this.

PPSSPP can get you better results, and is a very fast and matured PSP emulator. Even the free version can upscale the internal rendering and looks gorgeous at 5x rendering with a 3x window scale. I always use demanding games to test the limits too, like God of War: Ghosts of Sparta.

I haven't pushed PPSSPP that hard, but I do have it on two of my computers and will acknowledge that it does look very nice, even on modest settings.
