Well, I guess that if it isn't under warranty, you might as well just take it apart and check the *incredibly fragile* ribbon connections to the screen then put it back together and see if that fixes anything. If not...it could mean that either the screen or the motherboard are broken somehow. Doesn't hurt to try and fix it yourself. All you need is a small jeweler's screwdriver. If it's broken already, then there isn't much more you can break yourself.
