I haven't bought any yet but am looking at getting a few. My main concern though is how well do they run? I say this because the PSP I used to have obviously had CFW and some of the better games like Daxter, Wipeout etc all ran a LOT smoother when the PSP was forced to 333mhz. So older games that ran at 222 like the above, got a nice performance boost when 333 was forced on the original PSP.

My question is, does the vita run those games at the original speed, or do they get the kick that CFW provided to make them run smoother. As far as I know this affected a lot of games at the time like Daxter, Wipeout, Untold Legends, Medievil Resurrection, Liberty City Stories, Lemmings. The list is almost endless. Anyone with a Vita know the answer to this?

As far as I know, runs them at standard speed. If you're able to install an eCFW for the PSP mode though, it's possible to have it run at 333.

Its ok I didn't realise that from a really old voucher code I had bought Wipeout Pulse that I had redeemed but never downloaded. I just tried it and its running an almost locked 60fps which is similar to the PSP at 333 (the game legitimately, only runs at 222, so at a worse framerate.) So it seems the Vita does emulate at the 333mhz speed then at all times which is a nice bonus!

as someone who plays PSP games on PSP... ouch! Didn't know that!

this may be all the more reason to get a Vita.

p.s. Lemmings? wtf? So like, what, if you go 333 mhz will they start jumping out of the screen or something?

No, it'll just improve the framerate. And you can just hack the PSP and force it to 333MHz in the settings, no need to get a Vita for that.

yea but I have no intention of hacking the PSP. I use it 'as-is'

    also, Lemmings has framerate issues?

I bought Powerstone Collection. Runs smooth. But the screen is stretched to fit the Vita resolution so it looks ugly.

I thought I heard that wasn't a problem on the Vita. But maybe I am thinking of PS1 classics.

Why not? It's extremely easy at this point, allows you to run emulators, PS1 games that aren't available from the store and force it to 333MHz for smoother games.

Yes, Lemmings has framerate problems when scrolling the screen. The is all but cleared up running at 333 (or, on the vita - as I have since bought it and its totally smooth now.)

Rest assured, my reasons are valid.

I dont think they look any worse, its just because they are on a bigger screen. I mean, with the Vita resolution being exactly double the PSP in width and height, all the Vita is showing the PSP games up for is their low resolution.

Really? because when I played, everything looked blurry (linear blur or not) or really jaggy. I remember MH freedom being playable on the PSP but it looks so much worse on the Vita. Maybe its just me.

It does look more pixelated granted because of screen size.. But if you turn off bilinear filtering it looks as close to the PSP as it can get. All the Vita does I believe is uses 4 pixels on the Vita for 1 pixel on the PSP. So there is no stretching going on at all as others have mentioned. 960x544 is exactly double of 480x272

I have to admire that Sony was committed to make Vita screen ideal for playing PSP games

They look really different from my PSP 3004 screen. I prefere the original, more flashy colors though on my PSP as they were designed to play. but that may be just because of the extra brigthness level offered by the CFW I am using, along with the framerate boost from 333 Mhz overclocking, by the same CFW.
