I didn't own the console, I did see the bricked console, I'm the one who restored it. It's just coincidental that she had left and I have no means of communication with her for the next 2 or 3 hours. I can maybe post pics later? Depends on her cooperation with me later. She's not my best friend and according to her, I'm kind of annoying.
Look I'm not trying to be a dick but there's not much point in the thread if it's not informative. I have no reason to defend supercard or gateway but I have to say that I am starting to get skeptical about the claims here. What are you going to post pictures of? A working console? How about this, why don't you post a video of how it bricked? That would help. This card has been out for about a month in North America and for longer in China and there's been thousands sold, in those thousands sold there has been 3 bricked consoles? That's not more than just random chance or user error or faulty cards. That doesn't equate to gateway targeting supercard to me. When I saw this thread I thought there would be many many bricks posted by now if gateway had some way to target the card. I'm not saying it's not true, all that I am saying is from what I see here it seems unlikely to me. Sorry.

i was originally thinking it would be ridiculously easy for gateway to detect DSTwo users, despite some people doing the old naive "well if it works on the official launcher.dat gateway will NEVER be able to block/detect it haha supercard pwns", straight away after release people noted that the DStwo always fails the SPI checks in diagnostics
#1 piss easy clone test for gateway to perform,
and seeing as the DSTWO+ has the DS and 3DS card in 1 they could also just scan the msd for the DSTWO kernel files and GW plugin.....now it they have opted to detect the DSTWO+ with either of these 2 methods it does leave room for legit users of gateway to end up bricked, say if someone uses the same microSD between a DSTWO+ and a legit gateway card or someone who has a gateway card that has a faulty SPI chip........maybe they use both and that would greatly reduce the likely hood of someone with a faulty gateway card + using the same mSD with a DSTWO

then again it could be something even more elaborate, challenge and response timing etc to differentiate gateway and dstwo users, would be good to find out the exact trigger though
I think if Gateway is going to act like this against their competition, we should all just go with Gateway. We can run many ROMS, CFW, and much more.

People that are getting bricked deserve it. They're supporting thieves that stealing from other thieves. Don't want to brick? Use cfw of get a legit GW card.

i seen these exact posts with the last bricks "everyone is lying", "its just the people had shitty consoles and it was unrelated", even after i recorded a video of gateway bricking on a legit gateway card people still said "oh maybe...blah blah blah", lets be honest how many people sit there recording their 3DS in the off chance they brick it, and as for its been out ages....yeah sure, but the latest gateway update was only recent and thats when these posts appeared

I'm strongly against having myself in any media. Like I said, if she agrees to having some pictures sent to me, I'll upload them. Also, not every single post has to be " informative. ". We're here to help people. If you don't believe what I post, set me on your ignore list. As, I'm not breaking any GBAtemp rules and I don't like arguing with people. And please note I'm also not trying to sound harsh, but I post to help people and just because proof isn't provided doesn't mean it isn't an attempt/truthful.

I am in total agreement with you. I think it would be very easy for Gateway to kill consoles. I don't think they would do it again after the backlash before. I don't think it's a benefit to them for you to have a broken console. If they're going to target Supercard they are going to make the Supercard not work right, and then you would go and buy a Gateway possibly. People with broken consoles don't buy Flashcards of any kind. And certainly it's not encouraging to use a gateway or any other flashcard for that matter on the console that you bought to replace the one that gateway killed.

You restored her bricked console, yet she is not you're best friend according to her? mmmm?
I didn't see your post. She's still my friend. We play games together. And she still finds me rather annoying at times. She sometimes doesn't reply to messages from me. I talk too much.

well there is also quite a few people on the supercard forums saying that after the 1.4 update their card got locked into red card mode, who knows maybe gateway took a two pronged approach this time, who would want to buy a clone and have its only unique feature rendered useless, but i have never disagreed that bricking a console is ovr kill and would probably put people off buying anything from the person responsible, but i think gateway are banking on not bricking everyone, but bricking enough to tarnish supercard enough that nobody trusts them again and people try to return the item that "might" brick them and opt for the non clone version

lets face it, if R4 came out with another gateway clone and said "dont worry we are safe this time" how many people would really go for it

Lmaoo!!!!! Nice trolling, you got me lol. Everyone run out and buy Gateway!
No trolling. Gateway may not provide support for the higher FW, but it has much more you can do on it than DS2+ and others. But, you have the same abilities with a CFW. So, if you already own a Gateway, just use it.

Yeah and that's exactly what I thought as well when I saw that. There are two people that I saw on. Supercard forum saying that when I checked. That would make total sense to me, and that's something I am willing consider. I think that at this point I'm done with this thread for now anyways. It doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

I don't own any 3ds Flashcard, in fact i don't even have a 3ds with a good firmware...yet...so I wonder if i should choose the CFW option or the Gateway one...once i get the good 3ds...

I have both gateway 3ds and rxtools cfw. Mostly use the gateway 3ds but it does not hurt to have different options.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

CFW, ITS FREE AND DOES THE SAME AND MORE
CFW can't run .3ds/.3dz roms and can't run out of region dlc/game updates on it's own last time i checked.

I don't know anything about the out of region games but you can convert. 3ds to cia easily. The other thing is CFW is open source FTW!!! With a community this big and an open source CFW it will always get updated. This is just the start, RXtools is just gonna get better.

Simplest answer is: 03DS/2DS = Get rxTools, N3DS = Get Gateway
