Regarding the latest news there has been a ps4 remote play app which is open source on github.

what are the chances that this can be turned in to something magical on the switch.

Goal: having an open source implementation of the PS4 Remote Play protocol as well as a client which works on Linux. Both local and remote remote play should be supported.

its still WIP, but hope we can port it to the switch

this is the github

It's very possible but until someone brings hw acceleration to the switch it'll be painfully slow. Moonlight has been ported to stream pc games but again without hw acceleration it's too slow. I believe this would be the best thing for the switch homebrew scene atm.

Wasn't that done in Linux? That was done in Linux

I think it will be super slow, unless you can force the console to be in dock mode or something.

Yes linux has hw acceleration but horizon doesn't. That's where the majority of ppl want to run homebrew. Linux deff has it's uses but for gaming I believe horizon is the better way to go.

a client which works on Linux.
Sure, Horizon would be 100 times better, but the OP mentioned Linux, so I commented on that.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I dont think anyone has been banned by using Linux, so it could be better in the sense of avoiding a ban via homebrew. Again, dont trust me on this.

I missed the part about linux. The only prob with linux is the lack of proper sound support. Bluetooth works good for now but I don't see anyone taking up the task of fixing that anytime soon. I believe 2 switches were destroyed trying to come up with a solution and we still don't have a full proper solution.

Afaik, there are people working on drivers for linux. So at the moment, it isnt the best solution, but eventually things could get better.
Also, probably best to point out that Linux has to restart for wifi to work, so thats not great either.

In my opinion, sound isn't too much of a problem. I often play games on my Switch in silence anyway, I just listen to Youtube videos or anime.

well its going to work as a start in linux, but my initial thoughts is porting to to horizon, no one was banned from linux, but it will be epic if we got a homebrew version of this, most of us already own a ps4, and would be a nice combo to be honest.

i own a vita and the things runs a bit sluggish due to outdated vita specs, so was hoping for the switch to rise in that field.

lets see how things go, hopefully for the best

If only it was possible to boot into Linux from Horizon, then it might be better :P
A homebrew version will take alot of time to make. More progress needs to be made in the scene for it to be possible. Probably will happen after Atmosphere drops, well, a while after anyway.

yea its easier to port it on linux, lets see how things goes.
the scene is honestly the best active scene right now, ps4 scene is slow as hell and vita is almost done, except theflow is pushing life in it.
thank god the switch scene attracted all these teams, if we were left with failoverflow we would still be teased by them running linux :D

Nintendo Consoles are magnets for homebrew teams.
Xbox homebrew teams are almost non-existent
Playstation, you already know.

As you said, for now we have to wait until someone skilled enough comes along and saves us all :D

I'm glad there's an in-progress project for current remote play. If they get it working and keep it up to date with the remote play protocol, then it should be ok to get it running on Switch/Horizon once we have hardware acceleration (which is being worked on currently). CPU clock speed/docked vs handheld shouldn't be an issue, as it's mostly about streaming and decompressing video. The only problem I can think of would be if it used some weird video compression format that's supported by the Vita's hardware but not by the Switch 's, but that doesn't feel too likely as there are also Windows/Mac clients.

Didnt sony bans your psn account if you do remote play over a non sony platform? Was reading that installing the remote play app on a non sony android phone it puts your account in risk for ban.

I've been doing it for years on PC/Android, neither of which are sony platforms.

HW acceleration? Isn't the inegrated videoplayer in the switch capable of live streams. If so maybe than one could be used for the video streaming part of things and HW acceleration would not really be needed?
But what do I know anyway :D

There is a remote play program on pc, which is official, and sony smartphones can run remote play too (officially)
What I meant by that is that I'm not using their programs - I run an unofficial app to use remotely play on PC and I use a non sony smartphone.
