Hardware PS4 Pro and XBO-X USB HDD Question

Hi guys. I recently got a PS4 Pro and will be getting an X Box One X for Christmas. I have a small entertainment cart/stand and both the PS4 Pro and X Box One X will be placed horizontally on it. Both systems will have a USB HDD attached. My question is, is it safe/ok to place the USB HDD's on top of the systems? Help and thoughts greatly appreciated
