So I have a phat ps3 running HEN and i started playing a PSN psx game on it but the phat ps3 belongs to someone else and they want it back. Can i buy another PS3 (slim model) put HEN on it and transfer the game save file over to the new system and continue where i left off ? I'll also like to do this offline without internet if possible

I think psx saves are vmc format, so yes. Just transfer the memory card.
Thanks good to know, when you say "transferring the memory card" im guessing this is an option in system settings right? Also how is that done, with USB drive, Ethernet, official ps3 transfer cable (please NO!) ?

They are .PSV format. They are not system-locked. Just copy to USB; it also works on OFW. Download other saves from Gamefaqs and use them as a demonstration.

they're in vm1 format while on the system:

ps2 is vm2 (vmc) or vme if a ps2 classic. this is where the two memory cards are stored on the root directory savedata.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

it's just a raw memory card with 16 blocks with the first being a toc with the other 15 being save blocks. each block is 8KBs for a total 128KBs. you can find the exact save inside, because each save starts with SC for a length of 0x2000. they're generic.

This is good info, but I think it's a bit much for what OP is trying to do.

yeah, though the memory card isn't encrypted, so an ftp will do it. just have to rebuild the database afterwards. going into a game may also work, because that updates the database as well (at least for ps3 games).
