PS3's are listed at £424.99 on amazon UK which is about $820 US although that is likely to be a bit lower if you compare similar wage sort of thing rather than exchange rates.

As for HD vs Blue ray I am not especially fussed about either (I find it ironic that most "HD" TV sets are at or barely more than DVD res) but HD DVD has currently been pretty much broken protection wise (yeah blue ray has some advances in the area).

As for the original topic I have not honestly looked but people I speak to are still getting assured a PS3 will be waiting for them on launch, maybe people will be able to buy them off the shelves.

so i loaded up ebay and watched all the ps3's that were for sale this afternoon. remember that a brand new ps3 will cost you £425. here's what people who were selling their pre-orders were getting on ebay.co.uk today:

ps3 + motostorm = £430.00 (console + game worth approx. £465 at online discounted price for the game)
ps3 = £400 (reserve was not met, so no sale)
ps3 = £410
ps3 = £400
ps3 = £390
ps3 = £375

as you can see, anyone wishing to get rich selling their ps3 on ebay is up shit creek without a paddle.

of course, this is only my own not-very-scientific reporting, but it's what people are willing to buy the console for on ebay right now.

hopefully there will be mass panic with people trying to recoup their outlay now they realize the chance of profit is slim. maybe i'll try and get one for £300

edit: another went for £416

i went to my local game and asked if there are anymore preorders for the and they still have 5 more spaces seems that people arnt that intressted because i asked about wii pre orders and they had Zero left shows that wii is well ahead of PS3 here in the UK

HD DVD has currently been pretty much broken protection wise (yeah blue ray has some advances in the area).

Blue ray was fully broken a couple of weeks back,when the MPAA heard about it they posted a cease and desist order on the doom9 forums where the software had been made public

I asked a guy in HMV in Peterborough and he's never taken a pre-order for a PS3 and he works 11am-6pm Tues-Fri and is mostly on till duty for half the time he's there.

I read somewhere that the GBA is selling more than PS3, OK well its quite a lot cheaper but you know

@Azimuth I saw it had been essentially cracked wide open (keys leaked and the like) but missed the C&D phase of things, guess that is what happens when I do not pay attention for a week. It seems it is who can reverse engineer the respective containers the quickest now then.

I really must stop dragging things off topic so launch titles, what does everyone think may be worth the effort and will any still be being played one year on?

I think its funny the best games still being released on the PS2. You would think they would be trying to get them released on the PS3 to sell it. God of war 2 exclusive to the PS3, how many more PS3s will sony sell.

And so.... today is PS3 launch date in Europe and today in town.... it was pretty much business as usual. I walked past Dixons and there was a massive sign saying, "11 PS3s available for people without a preorder". Either Sony managed to make enough PS3s to cope with demand... or more likely, no-one is wanting to spend that sort of amount.... like me.

reading the news about ps3, seems the launch wasn't much of a success - sony will catch up i have no doubt, but right now the price is putting a lot of people off

They're trying so hard to sell the PS3. When I went online today I had about 5 emails telling me to buy the PS3 now. I've never known sony have so much stock unless they're not selling as well as they could. The price is too expensive, I'm letting the idiots pay full price for one. Hopefully after xmas they'll be around the same price as the xbox 360.

Virgin Megastore near me had a sign saying they had 72 PS3s still available to preorder when I went past yesterday (hand written sign on a flip chart with a reporters notebook for the number left that I guess they ripped off every time one was pre-ordered)

Today has been the biggest launch of a console in Europe, but demand hasn't equalled the supply.

There are plenty sat on shelves, same as in other countries. By the end of this month Sony will have shipped 6m worldwide but they will be lucky if they have sold half that.

That's actually very clever

No sense in putting up a video screen with live data, when you can just walk over to the notebook, rip the last number off, and write a new one (no need to pre-write all the way to zero, because it's hardly likely the "remaining PS3" count will get to zero anytime soon

)
PS3 caused a lot of hubbub around here, but the much-awaited, media-covered midnight launch was attended by, as witnesses described, "three people and a dog" (don't know if the witnesses counted themselves toward the total of three, or not). They sold one console.

Okay, so they sold the rest today, but that's beside the point...

From what I'm reading coming from various parts of the world, they'd be hard pressed to give them away

Well, not really since the price is probably the main stumbling block. The midnight launches seem to have been a bit of a universal flop really, apart from the lucky buggers at Virgin in Oxford Street who have all been given a 46" Bravia HDTV FREE to go with their precious PS3 purchase.

Find it quite telling that on launch day, I can pick up a PS3 almost anywhere on-line - no stock outs or anything.

I STILL can't get hold of a Wii anywhere online (without going the ridiculous eBay route), 4/5 months after launch.

What does that say about the PS3's "success" ?

What does that say about the PS3's "success" ?
I'm sure the marketing geniuses at Sony will find a way to show this as one of PS3's advantages.

"While the Wii is bought by hordes of brainwashed zombies, the PS3 is bought by the discerning customer."
"PS3 is very select and exclusive; very few have one."
"PS3 sales are behind, but that's only so the ultimate victory would be more spectacular."
"The PS3 is being fair to the competition by giving them a head start."
"The sales of the PS3 can't be compared to its "competition", because the PS3 has no competition. All other consoles are entirely different categories; in fact, I hesitate to even call them consoles. No, wait. They are consoles, mere consoles, while the PS3 is a whole lifestyle!"

Was in Corby earlier and in the Gamestation there's a massive "Wii Now In Stock" Poster and next to it a few A4 posters saying "PS3 On Sale Now". I saw two Wii's on the shelve and many many PS3's. PSP was out of stock which surprised me.

Seems to be a lot of offers around where you can get a PS3 and two games of your choice for £440 which isn't too bad considering. Can't say its worth the money though, it does have a lot of good games but most are on 360 and apparently better.

Time will tell but I cant see it being the best seller of the three.

Just got mine, loveing it so far. Only one problem: every friggin account I register from my PC doesn't work on the PS3. Always says invalid user/pass. I wanna download some demos and GTHD.
