PS3 issues

I have a PS3 with 500GB Hardrive and I have not use it for long time, when I start up PS3 I get this message
No applicable update data was found. connect to longing media with updated version 4.85 or later, then press the Start and Select keys at the same time.
I have connect longing media with updated 4.85 and I still get samme message.
Please help meI miss playing PS3 so much.

sounds like something is wrong with the hard drive. is the flash drive formatted to fat32? is it PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.DAT? everything must be in all caps too as it's case sensitive.

I completely forgot to create a new folder and write PS3/Update. now i know what's wrong but now it's being thrown away and i'm going to buy a new one, don't know what to tell my parents since i said it was broken because that's what i thought at first.
