Wait just a minute.

How are you supposed to get the update when the PSN is still down, isn't that where they come from.

Not that I own a PS3, just pointing out an obvious flaw.

There's an update. It just does basically nothing except prep you for when PSN comes back up at an undetermined time.

Being able to connect to Sony's server for an update =/= PSN being up

You can download updates without connecting to PSN.
