Hacking PS3 CFW

Hey, stupid question. If I have two PS3's, both running cfw, is there a way I can play multiplayer with them without signing on to PSN, kind of like how ad-hoc was with the psp? I'd like to play games with my son, but I don't know if I trust him enough to run the "spoof" apps before every session.

*Edit: I'm sorry, could a mod add "multiplayer" to the end of my title? I thought I added it but evidently my phone had a problem.

From what i know, you can play multiplayer like that via LAN, but nothing else if you don't want to use psn. Assuming the game supports multiplayer ofc
