I just got a PS3 it's an older one with ps2 compatibility.

It has multiman already installed. It looks like it boots into a custom firmware straight away as it starts with a sega logo and startup sound. I checked firmware and it says 3.66. The multiman is in the 4.xx. What should I do with this set up now. Is it worth updating?

My issue is it seems to play all discs but ps2. When i load a disc it freezes on a black screen, then I have to pull the plug. I've put a DVD in and that seems to play fine as well as PS3 games.

I think you should research a bit on what you can do and the apps that may be installed, dont update anything until you are sure on how to revert or like tweak things, im no genius definitely not for the ps3 so dont take me for granted, as for the ps2 thing, a quick google should suffice.

Thanks for your input so far, really appreciate it.

So I should be able to install 4.82 cfw ferrox on top of what is there already? I'm a little confused with my firmware as it says 3.66 isn't hackable but it boots into a custom bootscreen and multiman seems to be working ok. Is this a spoofed firmware number?

Looking into the ps2 issue online hasn't come up with any solutions so far. I have a Pal version so it looks like the ps2 is handled by emulation and not the chip like the NTSC ones. I thought it could be the lens but if it plays all other media ok it should be fine. In multiman it comes up with what the game is but doesn't allow me to load it.

It's the 60 gig hdd with four ports at the front and memory slots.

SylverReZ @ SylverReZ: Also nice. Never really watched Fallout on Prime, but sounds like a good show. +1
