Ok, is there any advantages over having FMCB on a slim PS2 and a modchip on a Fat PS2?
I think so. I have a Phat one and Harddrive access is much simpler than using the old PS1 boot expliot. Plus if you have the network adapter the hardrive fits snuggly away.

*edit* hang on I misread your post. sorry.

My exploit_save.max file isn't executing.
Naming it exploit_save.max won't work.

Do this to get the right name:

1. Copy the system file (not the hacked one!) over with the AR max to your USB drive.
2. Go on your computer and see what name the file is.
3. Delete the system file and name the hacked system file to what the old one was.
4. Copy over the hacked system file (with the right name) with the AR max.

Now it should work! I had the same issue.

Modded PS2 slim: Plays 100% of games.
Softmodded PS2 fat: Only plays 99% of games. Hard drives work better with games.

All right, so I have an Action Replay Max(the one with the usb support) and not an evo, but I have slimline, is it still possible for me to softmod it?
You can't do the PS1 exploit disk to get it on but something else should work. Its really a hit-and-miss. Try looking up some guides.

Quick question:

Just got Killzone 1 and all the pieces are "DVDIMAGE". The are 3 file types: .I00, .I01, and .MDS. I remember hearing .MDS had to do with ripping actual games out of the real disc and that's about it. What do I extract out of WinRAR to get everything combined (it's split into 8 parts). Also, will it be an .ISO then or will I need to change it into one somehow with a program? Thanks.

EDIT: I burn with IMGburn, so it need to be readable.

So it's split into 8 rar files and inside is i00 , i01 and the mds?. If that's the case, then it's simply who ever ripped it, done it on a fat32 drive , so it's been split because of the 4GB file size limit.

Just extract as normal so you have the i00, i01 and mds in the same place , load the mds into imgburn and burn as normal.

You could try manually joining them with command prompt.

Copy /b x.i00+x.i01 x.iso

Sub the x for whatever the file is called (I assume it has a name before i00 etc). Don't know how the esr patcher will respond to it though.

Alternatively you could mount the .mds in a virtual drive. Then image from that, like you would if you had the actual disc. Long as your drive isn't fat32, you'll get single file you can patch.

I've read in the tutorial that it's not reccomended to use FreeMCBoot with a modchipped console and I can't disable mine and it says it will result in a black screen if I do use it. Are they right or should I go ahead and use the burned CD method to run FMCB on a chipped console? I'm doing this mainly to put applications and HDLoader on my PS2.

If you have a chipped console there's no real reason that you'd need FMCB to put stuff on your PS2 since you can load burned discs anyway!

Just bought the ar-max evo but theres no media player, im sure you have allready spoken about this but is it possible for me to soft mod my ps2?
I got the 16mb usb pen with ar max evo.

Thx in advance,.. sorry to ask -.-

I don't know if you've posted here before, so I'm not sure on the details of your condition. Do you have a slim or phat PS2? If it is the phat (original), you can mod with no problem. If yours is a slim, look on the back. If it says SCPH 900xxx (x=Any number/letter), then you can't mod it. Anything else, you can.

Thx for the reply,

Got a phat ps2, but the ar-max evo ive bought, did not have the media player.
Is there a way to boot mcboot without the media player?

what do you mean Media Player? I know some AR's needed Memory Cards, but the Evos shouldn't. If you mean an option to play .mp3s and such, no that's not needed. You're only using the AR to move stuff from your USB to your PS2 memory card.

Finaly got it working

thanks for all the info and help!

What is a Codebreake or an Action Replay disk? I know they are disks that allow you to load cheats for your videogames (ain't I right?), though I've never ever ever ever seen them around here in Italy... Do you guys know a place where to buy them? (possibly in Italy, if there are some fellow Italians) How much are they priced nowadays?

It would be nice to get my old ps2 modded since I've had it for over 6 years now and I still run behind original games... shame on me! XP

Why doesn't this guide tell directly:

ESR only works when the following conditions are met:
- you use DVD-Rs or DVD+Rs booktyped to dvd-rom(some ps2s are said to be able to run DVD+Rs without bitsetting with ESR, not tested)
- game region == ps2 region
- the game is patched to DVD-VIDEO(with ESR disc patcher GUI v0.24a for example)

and that you can run the cogswap.elf with this softmod in order to play DVD+Rs without bitsetting, import games and unpatched games? And that you only need 1 (large) original game for this?

ESR doesnt require a large game
cogswap does to get a large TOC off the disk before you switch them

I meant that this guide is for noobs and it doesn't mention cogswap. I have 2 ps2s, 1 with modchip and dead laser and 1 unmodded one. That's why i have lots of unpatched discs, which work with cogswap while i would have to patch and reburn them for ESR.
