A developer has published a write-up documenting the creation of a PlayStation 1 static recompiler despite having no prior experience with decompilation or recompilation. The project uses AI tooling (Claude Code) to assist with static analysis, debugging, and iteration while recompiling the PS1 game Tomba! into a native PC application.

The article explains the workflow used to reverse-engineer the game, repeatedly build and test the generated code, and resolve issues encountered during the recompilation process. While still experimental, the project highlights how modern AI tools can assist with reverse engineering and static recompilation efforts.

Shown below is a video demonstrating progress thus far on Tomba! showing introductory FMVs, main menu screens, and gameplay of the initial area.
