"Space Station Silicon Valley" for the N64 gets a recompilation alpha release for PC

The N64 PC ports just keep coming, be it from actual decompilation-focused groups that aim to make a full PC port of a certain title based on the on-going decompilation of a game, or those that use the N64 Recomp tool to statically recompile the game's code into C code for a faster PC port, with Space Station Silicon Valley being the latest one to benefit from the later method.

Space Station Silicon Valley is a charming N64 game released back in 1998 where the player takes control of a robot's chip to take control of different animals, while solving several puzzles and defeating enemies. The Recompilation of SSSV was made possible thanks to the progress and efforts being made by the mainline decompilation project of the title by mkst on GitHub, where the progress of the current decompilation as of today sits at 96% matching functions, and 77% matching bytes between the decompiled code and that of the original game.

Those interested in trying out the alpha release of this Recomp PC port can do so by visiting Cellenseres' Github repository for the project. Do remember though, as with any other decompilation/recompilation project, the user is required to bring their own ROM of the original game for the copyrighted asset extraction in order for the PC port to work.

I think the crash was only for new saves. I think. It would crash during the intro cutscene on a certain part. I have never experienced it because I never had the expansion pak but I've played that game all throughout my childhood. I even used cheat engine some time ago to fix the trophy glitch on a stream but it was deleted on twitch. Essentially I used save states to scan when I touched another trophy to get it's collision pattern or something. I don't remember but I might try it again one day.
The crash happens
1. during the intro cutscene
2. at the beginning of stage 1

So if you have a save past stage 1 and skip the intro cut scene then you're golden

I hope to see one day Smash Bros recompiled for PC.
Smash Bros. would be dope, especially if it was compatible with Smash Remix, like the recent Banjo Decomp is compatible with mods (or at least provides a patcher/converter tool).
As soon as it is decompiled, it also should be way easier to add more characters, stages and music as opposed to doing this within the limits of an N64 rom (which, still, Remix does an amazing job with).

Shocked I never heard of this game, definitely gonna fire it up

Made by DMA, the people who became rockstar

Some interesting tidbits, you can't collect all the trophies because of a collision glitch, most copies will crash with the expansion pak and require a jumper pak, and finally an awful independent port to PS1 exists (made by separate studio, also there is a gbc game based on this title)

Apparently didn't sell well because it launched at the same time as Zelda OoT

I swear to god, i remember a review several years ago where someone covered the game and brought up some DS game that was a port or remake released only in europe... i think, can't remember the exact details

Wow. I remember this game from my childhood. Didn't think anybody else cared enough to remember it.
Going back to it nowadays is kind of rough, though. The controls are a bit sluggish, and the graphics look like ass. Hopefully the recomp gets some much needed QoL. This game could really use a full remaster.
