I just want to ask how's your experience playing PS1 games on switch. Is it mature enough to emulate games properly? Or should I just stick to my PS vita for PS1 emulation? Been wanting to play Chrono Trigger and Suikoden II cause they always rank in Top JRPGs. Thank you

I've been playing Final Fantasy VIII perfectly fine. Don't know about any other game though. Might play well too for all I know.

Everything i played worked very well with 1500mhz overclock, though I have not tried these games specifically.

For chrono trigger, you might just wanna play the snes version though, the ps1 releases i believe are kinda laggy.

Thanks guys! Just when I thought I finally have a reason to play my Vita again. The switch steals it away again. lol

Anyone tried Xena Warrior Princess?
It was my best game on the PS1, I would love replaying it.

I'd suggest you should play it on your vita since it has adrenaline or retroarch also and for longer playtime (assuming your vita is slim)

Thanks for the advice. My Vita is indeed slim but I'm not used to its smaller screen anymore. I'd prefer it on the switch.

How about the DS emulation then? Planning to play the DS version of Chrono trigger on classic mode :D

Yes, RetroArch nightly builds play N64, PSX/PS1, and PSP (PSP Mini's work well too!). To save space on your SDCard, PCSX-REARMED supports PSP PSX EBOOTS (PS1 games converted to PSP format) which also compresses them (and multi disk games as well!!)

In RetroArch, you should overclock to 1500MHz (it will give warning, but it should be fine so long as the switch vents are NOT COVERED by ANYTHING!)

Good luck!

Wait, is overclocking necessary when playing Suikoden 2 in the PS1 Emulator though? Can I turn off the overclocking? I dont think Suikoden 2 is that heavy of a game to process... A friend warned me that I will be basically be overriding safety measures set by Nintendo...

You need to overclocked on this DS version like melonDS. Or wait for improvement speed in the near future.
MelonDS recently got OpenGL working, which enables for better compatibility with some devices, and also hi-res 3D models (and perhaps textures too).
It seems that MelonDS might be the best bet we'll get at decent DS emulation in the near future.

Yeah. It is going to get the best DS emulation ever in the near future. Amazing emulator!

I'm not sure about Suikoden 2, but the games i play dont neeed OC. Try for yourself to see if its needed or not
What PS1 games do you play on Retroarch?

That's hype :D

It may be a while ;). The lakka core has zero options and both Melon and Desmume run off interpreter. Desmume is still many years ahead and although still incredibly slow(no JIT recompiler) it still runs faster than Melon currently and works with Vulkan. To put things in perspective L4T Lakka, which emulates faster than Horizon, still requires unstable overclocks to get a 2D pokemon game going at full speed.
