I have updated 5 Wiis to 4.0 without preloader installed. Just make sure you have a cios installed and you install the ios60 with free the bug before you run wani's system menu 4. Most importantly Wani's updated takes about 20 minutes so leave the wii alone and make sure you have a good wireless connection.

but the best thing to do is just keep 3.4 or update it to 4.0 with guides...if you update it trhough guides can you still enter the shopping channel and stuff

why wouldn't u be able to charge the remotes... quite random, anyway
updating to 4.0 depends on what you have before you update
I have 4.0 firmware running on NTSC USA and i can confirm that these work
pros
preloader 0.29
softmii v2.96 (including themes that for 4.0)
wad installation
Full wii backup compatibility
dvdx
usb 2.0

cons
some custom channels dont move to sd card menu (but all vc and wiiware do)
twilight hack will not work (but that shouldn't be a problem at all it u already have HBC)

(i haven't tried gc backups, usb loader, or SDHC but they should work

Sigh, time to write this statement once again. You dudes should look up into the 3.4 auto update topic, there's like gazillions questions regarding that....

3.4 DOES NOT HAVE AUTO UPDATE. IT'S JUST A RE-WRITTEN EULA

Not sure about 4.0 though.

i have to know something sorry if this is off topic but what is dvdx used for i think i installed it before i updated to 4.0 because i think mplayer ce needed it but why do i here 4.0 i think needed dvdx to be installed.

somehow i know for a fact i installed dvdx is there a way for me to check if its installed in my wii.

Another con of Sys menu 4.0 is:

Trucha Signed Discs can not be autobooted, or loaded through the system menu. (Such as wad manager disc)

yeah but then you cannot charge the wiimotes..., so i think there must be a hack for that...at least i hope there will be...

what you mean you can't charge the remotes??

if you dissable standby then the usb power is dissable and you cannot use the wiimote docking stations anymore to charge the wiimote batteries...
