I don't think the battery setup is the same. IIRC, you can play the original DS without a battery if you plug in the charger, but not the DS Lite.

The light goes out when the battery is fully charged. The battery drains slower than the plug charges. Therefore yes. If kept plugged in, your battery will never be less than fully charged. Thats why the orange light doesn't always stay on. The plug is charging faster than you can drain it, thus no need fo the orange light to stay on after the battery recharges.

No offense but if you know that the battery charges faster than it drains, then this question is really just common sense..

You can remove the battery from the DS, plug in the charger, and be able to play. That means the DS runs off the power mains while it's plugged in, and off the battery when not.I think I heard someone say on here that you can do that with the Phat but not the Lite. I think... confirm pls?

This is being talked about, but is it 100% confirmed? I think it'd be cool if the DS was using power directly from the wall as opposed to the battery being charged and drained at the same time.

It's still not 100% confirmed. Replies are still either guesswork or people responding without understanding what we're discussing and acting condescending in their ignorance, like GexX2.

Therefore, I'm still waiting amongst others for definitive proof either through experimentation or reference to a reliable source.

I just tested with my US Onyx DS Lite, and it doesn't work. Took the battery out and plugged it in, it flashes the charge light for about a second and then turns off. The DS will turn on while the charge light is on, but quickly powers down at the same time the charge light turns off.

Thanks for testing. I guess this proves that the DSL cannot run off the mains power source. This is perhaps the one criticism I would have for the console. I don't see why they should insist on you wearing down the battery, unless they really want to make a profit on batteries in the years to follow.
