Hey there! This is my first time posting (I hope this is the right place to ask for help).

I recently bought a V1 Nintendo Switch in need of some repairs from eBay. The seller stated the power button and vol- doesn't work, nor does the touch-screen digitizer or card reader. However it plays digital copies and works fine as a docked console, which is okay for how I intend to use it. I would really like to restore the function of the power button though, because I would like to be able to boot into RCM mode.

Upon arrival everything that the eBay seller stated in the description was correct. There were signs of a previous opening so I checked it out for myself and overall it looked pretty clean. The first thing I did was replace the volume and power flex/ribbon cable. I thought it would be an easy fix but it was unfruitful (just the vol+ still working, same as before). During further examination I noticed that there was a resistor missing.

The pads & traces look fine so I think I will try to replace it with another resistor, however every 150 ohm surface mount resistor I have bought online is too small. Does anybody have any links/sites where I could get some?
Would replacing the resistor restore the function of the power button? Or is something else the culprit?
Also, is there another way to enter RCM mode without the use of the power button?

I am fairly new to this stuff, and this has been the only Nintendo Switch I have ever worked on. With that said any and all advice/recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Please feel free to ask me any questions as well!!
Thank you for your help & wisdom!!!

Hello Milkweed !
So I looked at my motherboard and checked, the smd is just under 1mm long so I think the correct size is 0402, look on Mouser for
RC0402FR-13150RL and it should be close enough.

What were the ones you bought ?

Hey! thanks a lot for the reply & info, the ones I purchased were 0201 SMD. They were quite small. I'll check that Mouser info you sent, big help already :D

Thanks a bunch!

If it is a suitable value you can still use it -- put it in the middle or one side, might even glue it down, and if you can float solder to it then do that or cut off some small lengths of wire and connect it that way. As long as it is not dissipating huge amounts of power then it should be fine.

Otherwise surface mount electronics tend to be either "some chancer on ebay/amazon/whatever bundles some bags up and sells them at a serious markup" or you have a minimum order value and possibly amount* with something like

Rather UK centric but most have equivalents elsewhere/are North America based to begin with.

specific parts and guides

*most electronics companies want to sell you reels of things to go on a pick and place machine. Some might offer a reel with less on, some might offer cut tape "CT" wherein an intern goes to find a reel and cuts some of the tape inside off that houses the parts. My suggestion if you are doing cut tape is get a few as it will likely be fractions of a penny for each part and that way when you drop one on the floor...

If you have a university that teaches electronics, or an electronics company nearby they probably have parts in stock or do orders regularly. Very few will object to you putting some money in their hand to buy and call you up when it comes in.

As far as the actual problem. Replacing missing and obviously damaged parts is usually a good first step. From there it could be any number of things -- fixing electronics often has "check this first" type fixes but without so much as a photo (and realistically being able to probe things with a scope and multimeter) then it could be anywhere and anything.

I do believe that should be a 0201 size resistor.
For reference, I took a picture of that 150R side-by-side with 100k 0201 on the right, and 100k 0402 on the left.

Thanks again for everyone's input. I purchased the previous resistors from a seller on eBay, which presumably wasn't a good idea. They probably sent the wrong sizes, or maybe it was my fault. The sellers from the links provided seem a lot more tangible. I'll order some more 150 ohm 0201 surface mount resistors and some 150 ohm 0402 for good measure.

I think I will go with the Mouser site.
Do these look alright?
