All the Windows 8 videos were uploaded around the time or before the beta trials for Windows 7...

I don't have evidence to dispute the year old video's claims, but it looks more like concept designs for Win7 than it does for Win8.

The OP is the most realistic because they're "plans" for Win8 which seems close to reality seeing as 7 just released not even a year ago.

Gates retired long ago you know. He's more focused on Xbox related projects than Windows related.

Gates is just the "unofficial" face for Microsoft because he was the founder and CEO for all those decades until just a few years ago.

And the Zune isn't terrible you know. It just never stood a chance when the iPod brand was already successful and had already sold 100million iPods, and was already a household name around the world before Zune came out. And Microsoft doesn't do enough to advertise and promote itself like Apple does. People who have no knowledge of media devices, or iTunes, or computers buy iPods because that's all they know. There's probably idiots out there who believe iPod was the 1st mp3 player ever. Not that the iPod is actually an mp3 player. And you never hear anything about those touch screen, web browsing, multimedia handheld devices by Samsung or another company years before iPod Touch was ever rumored. iPod vs Zune is like PSP vs DS, PSP isn't bad, it just lacks the support and word of mouth it should have received.

If this is real (I highly doubt it), then depending on how it was obtained, Microsoft could shut the source (well, the source of the source) down.
It's real in a sense. It was a “Copenhagen” user experience concept video made by an enthusiast named Cullen. It does look nice, though.

Name: Viena?

and how did that name come from your head?
Windows Vienna was a prototype name for Windows 7, though I highly doubt they would recycle that name again.
In addition, I don't think Microsoft would really "leak" anything when they have just created a very successful, popular OS. Many of the concepts for Windows 7 didn't look anything like the product itself, so I think it'd be safe to say that these can just be dismissed as rumors and wishes.

And is also the name of my email!
I got it just in time!

I guess Microsoft dropped the names after XP: Windows 7, Windows 8, next thing we know: Windows 16.
I personally don't like the way Microsoft is transforming Windows. They are making Windows more "idiot friendly". You don't get enough control over your computer, it's all automated. Not to mention that every time Microsoft upgrades Windows, they add more useless decorations to the desktop like vista aero that just eat up the graphical resources and may force some people with older computers to get a new one just for those useless features. Microsoft might as well concentrate on finishing the current operating system by removing bugs and such instead of leaving them there and just releasing another os with more bugs then the last.

I can think of a ton of ways xp is better than 7; that stupid thing where you try to highlight a filename and when you double click the filename to highlight IT DOESN'T HIGHLIGHT THE EXTENSION. And when you try to reposition a window, it automatically does what it thinks you want it to do, extremely annoying. Worthless features aching to get turned off like that areo crap, that stupid preview crap where it previews the thing your mouse is hovering over, Quick Launch getting turned off (you can put it back though, but of course 1st you have to find out yourself instead of it giving you a simple option,) etc. Among other things. What a revolution.

Windows isn't becoming idiot friendly just because of automated tasks. I like it when things are done automatically. I don't have to manually backup my files or run Disk Defrag. It's more productive and lets you get more things done. Aero is not a resource-hog like many claim. If you have a decent computer Aero is fine. Most post-2006 PC's can run Aero exceptionally. Aero isn't mandatory, anyways. You can always turn it off. Nobody is forcing you to purchase a new computer for it.

Windows Vista was buggy. That's a fact. Most of those bugs got sorted out by Service Pack 1. Since Windows 7 is built ontop of Vista instead of being an entire new OS, it can be made without all the bugs of an entirely new OS. I suppose Microsoft should make an entire new OS from scratch instead of the current ones based on Windows NT. Imagine the driver problems, though!

Microsoft: Gimme WinFS!

Well, that's nitpicking isn't it?

Nitpicking ? What ever happened to "if it ain't broke, don't fix it?" I don't give a crap about boosting MS sales figures if it means they are going to degrade the future of Windows. What will be the next feature to become a victim of progress ?

One more annoyance, having to rifle through that updated control panel. Cause the XP one needed so much improvement.

Another annoyance I remember, it automatically refreshes your file-explorer window when a new file appears instead of collecting at the bottom or top, which is nitpicking I guess since this could be an advantage OR annoyance

@SoulSnatcher: It's not necessarily bad that it's becoming automated, but what I really hate about the new versions is that it is hard to gain absolute control over your computer without a lot of effort. So doing a simple action requires going deep into system settings and changing something after a lot of research to make sure you don't break your computer which might not even be permanent because an update or something might just revert it back to the way it was. For example: I need to install an older game, but permissions system interfere with the game and makes it crash. I go to the default installation folder, program files, and try to remove certain permissions. It just doesn't let you, not even with an admin account. So I end up reinstalling the game in another folder to find out that the computer put certain permissions on it's on, and once again I can't revert them.

That's a fact of life.
Things change. Microsoft can't leave everything just like it was in Windows XP. Some may hate and some may like the new features. They can't please everyone considering the sheer amount of Windows users.

I suppose so.
Microsoft is making it easier for people who know nothing about Windows. Appealing to the casual since there are more sales to made with them. I do find it annoying. The constant 'Are you sure?' dialog prompts and how they sometimes automatically revert settings you changed manually.
