Homebrew Possible reasons for soft brick?

So my friend successfully downgraded! But I started getting suspicious? 2 times I have soft-bricked! Both of the times I used ft brony. I'm thinking that using ft brony will increase the chance of soft brick. But there's another myth that I have herd,it's that using a micro sd card with an adapter while downgrading will brick you. If anyone knows if this is true or not please respond!

A MicroSD with an adapter is more-or-less no different than using a regular SD card.

I've never had an issue using ftbrony 3dsx or cia, been using it for over a year now. I don't see how it could cause a "soft brick", maybe elaborate on what you mean.
