    Hello everyone.

I own a Nintendo 2DS Crystal Blue (sysNAND 9.2) and I am a bit flustered. My number one issue is that I travel a lot and I need to access my emuNAND offline but of course with a Nintendo 2DS, OoT, CN and an android device are the only ways to access GW emuNAND but I do not own either of them. With the recent release of CFW coldboot, this got me thinking of switching over but I know little to nothing about CFW's. I have many questions with CFW but basically I created this thread to help me decide whether to stay with Gateway 3DS or switch over and start using a CFW.

    My CFW questions:
    1. I have heard you can install .cia files on a CFW emuNAND but is it general .cia files or are there specified .cia files?
    2. Am I able to update a CFW (RxTools) emuNAND to the latest firmware?
    3. Am I able to use retail games with a CFW emuNAND?

I know I am able to find the answer to those CFW questions but I just do not want to read chunks of info. that will finally lead to the answer of my question. I know these questions are very, VERY tedious if you have seen them many, MANY times but do take the time to answer these questions in a polite manner.

    Thank you :)

For 2ds ur best bet is rxtools right now. Unless gateway comes out with Mset for 2ds soon.

Also, why does this thread exist. GW is virtually obsolete now that CFW is so good. I mean if you own a GW, by all means continue using it. But there is no point in buying one now

I know nothing of CFW so I can't tell which is better. I know I can look up facts but I just want a straight answer.

    To answer your questions
    1. You can install any cia. There are legit cias and regular cias. Read the sticky for more info
    2. Yes
    3. Yes

If you have a GW, you might as well use it. Although Rxtools now supports autoboot from startup, which is awesome

CFW and GW support the same stuff. Except GW supports .3ds files, region free, and region free dlc. Apart from that, they are the same

Thanks for the response. I really don't mind region lock cause I always focus on .cia files or even .3ds files that are [USA] files.

CFW because Gateway has yet to make use of offline exploits like that homemenu hax that lets you for all practical purposes boot into CFW on a cold boot. At this point the only reason you would want to use Gateway is if you need to run a Slot-1 game for whatever reason. I suppose a flashcart has it's own conveniences.

Mostly for rom hacks as it would be easier to maintain multiple rom hacks of the same game as installing CIAs of the same game more then once (even if each version has a different hack) would be difficult without fiddling with the exheader to give it a unique title id and unique id and what not. So a hardware Slot-1 device gets around that.

If you aren't doing a lot of fan translations/rom hack games, you really won't have much of a use for Gateway in this day and age.

I am using a 32GB Sandisk Ultra with great success in my O3DS. Any class 10 card should be ok, however remember that with emuNAND the system files in your console will be loaded from SD card (so it is best to have a fast SD card).

I think 32GB is the maximum recommended size for SD cards in 3DS. 64GB+ are SDXC cards, that by default uses exFAT (not recognized by O3DS). You can format them with FAT32, but I saw reports that it isn't really stable.

Ive heard 64gb and 128gb cards work fine on fat32. I was wondering if this is true, as my 32gb is almost full

Depends on the report. I saw some people saying that 64/128GB SD cards are prone to corruption or being slow, even original cards from good manufacturers.

They sure works when formatted as FAT32, however if it will work reliable or not is another thing.

Okay thanks though I find Sandisk more expensive than Kingston (I can possibly be wrong.) Are Kingston's any good?

Also, SanDisk are the brand most faked on ebay. A Kingston might be a little less likely to be fake.

You should add a third option "both" because its possible to run GW/RxTools beside one another.

At the same time? I would prefer to just run one unless running both at the same time works.

They can't run together at the same time, but the Gateway Launcher.dat and RxTools files can be on the same SD card, and you can use FBi to swap between the MSETs (ds profile exploits)

Well I'm thinking about getting a CFW just for an automatic coldboot.
