Gaming Pokemon UMUS: where is everyone?

i was wondering, in pokemon, once in teh festival plaza, are we suppose to see other players? if so, i guess its only friends in friends list, right? nothing like a ''lobby'' or anything similar?

Can we actually walk around with other players? or they will only show up in a list (to battle, trade, etc..) if we can actually see other players around in the plaza, how do i connect to their plaza and how do they connect to mine? or is it just, by regions or something?

you can trade with them if they accept you can battle with them if they accept you cant walk around with them cause they just stand there
you'll get people from every country around the world there is no region block they will connect to you as you connect to them just ask them to trade or battle they might say yes or no up to them
