Remember how you need title keys in order to use freeshop? Without a title key, whatever game you download is basically encrypted garbage, completely useless (until you get a dectitlekey, then the encrypted garbage can be turned into something else entirely).

Yeah, indeed. I found it out just right now, we need one of those keys, then we can decrypt it, also a lot is nullified.

So as you may know, the way that the big N does pre-purchasing is that you download an unopenable version of the full game before the release date and on midnight the night of release, they send out an update that makes the game playable.

My question is would it be possible, through hacking or whatnot, to try and bypass the part of the pre-purchased version that keeps you from opening it? I know little about how this stuff works and/or how to find out how it works, so that is why I've come here to you guys.

If anybody here wants to try and find out how to make this work before the pre-purchasing for Su/Mo is available, there is currently a game on the Eshop that is Pre-Purchasable: Disney Magical World 2. Assuming that this game's pre-purchase works the same as Su/Mo's will, this game may be a good way to find out how to bypass the need for the "availability update" and play the game early

Who knows, maybe in the future everyone here will be playing Pokemon before its official release ;)

No, it's not possible.

Pre purchasing installs a complete version of the title to your console, and gives you the title key. However, the content doesn't use normal ncch encryption keys -- it uses a special version of crypto called seed crypto introduced with 9.6 -- the encryption key is derived partially from a 128-bit value called the external seed that Nintendo publishes on release date. Numbers that big cannot be brute forced, and so the system is secure -- no playing sun/moon early from the eShop! (If someone dumps a cartridge before release, you'll be all good though).

The demo also uses seed crypto -- you won't be able to open it before the 18th even if we get to download it beforehand.

Um, it's like that everywhere in the world.

Some countries can have it faster than us, French people. Count us as Europe and compare the date on Japan and US, we don't have the same release date. Japanese people do probably have it now.

I was playing DQ7 as soon as it was available for pre-purchase but I wasn't on the most updated firmware It came out on 11.0 and I could play it fine until I updated to 11.1 and opened the eShop, then it gave me the unreleased error. So I restored my 11.0 backup so I could keep playing for another day Lol.

I should mention I downloaded the .cia from that site since it wasn't available on Freeshop yet, so I never physically opened the eShop after installing it until I updated and got the error.
