Mareep is a good choice.

Dunsparce, I caught it as a challenge, but then it learned Rollout and ripped through other Pokemon.

Bellsprout, it's an okay Grass type and comes in handy in the first cave.

Mareep, wonderful electric type.

Scyther, got from the bug catching contest at level 13, knew False Swipe and Persuit. It's speed is great as well.

Geodude?
It's the earliest one you can get and they're plentiful. Or you could hold out for an Onix and evolve to a Steelix later on.

Why not catch a pidgey? I always tend to use one until the end of the game.

Sudowoodo is an okay one, and it's full rock type.

Shuckle is rock and bug.

Corsola is rock and water.

Rhyhorn/Rhydon are both rock types.

Macargo is rock and fire.

Omanyte/Omastar/Kabuto/Kabutops/Aerodactyl are all rock mixes.

Larvitar/Pupitar/Tyranitar are rock.
