I suggest Charmander, Totodile, and Turtwig. Or, Squirtle, Chimchar, Mudkip. Or Treeko, Piplup, Cyndaquil. Or, Larvitar. Or Dratini. Or Gible.

the reason people use that is because it's the one that works best, that is, unless he has both rivals use pokemon of the same type that are not weak against each other.

Well that or 3 pokemon that evolve into pseudo legendaries. I suggest Larvitar as one choice, Deino, Gible, Dratini, or Bagon for another, and Beldum for the last.
