Well that and I feel the biggest argument against it is the fact it is no longer being developed. So it's kind of like driving a car from 1950. Sure, it works great now but when something breaks you'd be hard pressed to find someone to fix it. Wouldn't you rather drive a 2016 and have a choice of reputable repair shops?

And maybe because you are still Grilling*.

*Grilling: Originating from Yahtzee web show, the term means to use something you paid good money for even if you don't have to just because you want to feel getting your money's worth. "It's like when you buy a new grill and suddenly you have a need to throw a barbecue every weekend."

Maybe i still use gateway because it still fulfils the purpose i originally purchased it for? Unlike yourselves' I don't sit at my computer mashing F5 waiting for the next rom playing method... Gateway just works and i don't game enough to warrant needing all the bells and whistles :)

You will get far better results with Luma3DS and Gateway
Although, Gateway is a real can of warms on it's own.

lol is that gif from Beastwars? or a differnt "Series" ?

back on topic, i was sticking to RXTools when AuReiNand was a thing for awhile myself only because ironicly " it seemed like N3DS only. been happy since, and more or less ashamed up till when rxtools stoped getting updates i had been using it And posted Compiled versions *shivver* i feel so Diiiirty still. as for seeing the Divine light of A9LH, i gave it a shot while the 2.1 Downgrade was more or less a "Flash n Pray" Ordeal. despite we have the new ctrtransfeer method, i think too many people see it incorrectly as a brick chance that Will go wrong and refuse to try. ( for those, if your so afraid of a brick, protect your investment in a 3DS and go hardmod. )

I just have CFW on my console, I do not even play it that much since I modded the console but it is nicer to save some battery and having everything on your main menu and so on. I mean, I can say exactly same about Luma3DS, it does it's job and more, and I did not even pay anything! Though I would not mind donating something to AuroraW

I think it's from Beastwars. It looks like the 3D animation from it. IDK, I found it one day trying to find a good image to reply with.

And I used to used to use RXTools as well and almost kept using it when A9LH came out. But stopped using it once I realized the benefits of using A9LH over Menuhex.
But yeah, people are clinging to it because it was either their first CFW or they have some other reason (paranoid, lazy, or just ignorance.)
I made this thread because people are getting into the danger zone with RXTools. It's dead and the help is slowly being less and less available for it. Sooner or later, either Nintendo will break it or the community will break it, regardless, people need to stop using it.

Just change the "main" tutorial.
It was my first time with CFW, (i did like 2 weeks ago), and th e"main" tutorial was with Rxtools for O3DS

People still use rxtools partially because of this.

A quick search on google "install cfw 3ds"
Gives you nearly 6 or 7 guides on how to install rxtools.
The last result on the first page is the true guide people should follow.
That causes the problem of noobs setting up rxtools.
People are going to click the first thread/video they see on google.
Not the one that is at the end of the page which is pailect's guide.

Just that i should mention that.

I just switched to Luma3DS and I don't see any difference between this one and RxTools.
I just have a question : Is it normal that "Ver. 11.1" is written in System Settings? Will it only update the EmuNAND anyway?
Thanks!

Maybe its time too dislike ever video with rxtools and write to every author who stile had a tutorial with rxtools

Protect the noobs

Faut que tu ailles dans les réglages de Luma3DS et que tu coches d'afficher quand c'est émunand

I think one thing that might help is for those who wrote old tutorials involving menuhax+RXTools, et al should go back and edit those threads (if possible) and place a notice at the top that they should consult Plailect's guide instead with a link to it, for all the newcomers who arrive here through Google searches. I'm not saying to remove the existing tutorial, but definitely place a notice at the top that's hard to miss so at least they know it's outdated.

Back in June when I bought a used O3DS XL off eBay I googled CFW info and came upon many threads that were tutorials for outdated CFWs and I had one of them bookmarked, and it involved using rxTools via Menuhax, it was only by digging deeper that I saw A9LH+Luma3DS as the superior option. I think there are a lot of cases like that where someone is inclined to just follow the first thread they find on Google instead of digging deeper.

I did A9LH when downgrading to 2.1 was still quite risky and the Plailect guide was MUCH more time consuming as a result of the extra steps needed just for 2.1. The whole having to format multiple times because of fragmentation or whatever potentially causing a brick (before ctr transfer was a thing). Though I am not completely new to the concept of softmods since I was around here during the Wii days which also had its fair share of brick risks.

Hell, I almost bought a Sky3DS or Gateway (I forgot which) before realizing CFW was possible. If a discount code that was listed on RetailMeNot had worked, I would've been out $50 for a 3DS flash card. Thankfully, the code didn't work and I was unwilling to pay the non-discount price, so I bailed and it lead me to learning that CFW was possible.

One caveat though regarding FIRM protection I feel should be stated (complacency): If Nintendo *really* wanted to, they could find a counter-exploit to potentially override the memory patches and thus overwrite FIRM. But given their history of ineptitude when it comes to "fixing" softmods, I doubt it will happen. Still, you shouldn't become complacent enough to update immediately to new Nintendo firmwares. I am still on 11.0 and waiting another 4-5 days before I update to 11.1 despite having verified NAND backups kept securely in online file storage.

So, in other words, don't assume the FIRM protection cannot be circumvented. But it's better than no such protection at all. And of course, *always* do a NAND backup BEFORE updating -- and verify that the hash of the .bin file matches after copying it to your computer using any number of hashing software utilities available. Keep an off-site backup of it (Google Drive, OneDrive, et al).

I have another question:
I read somewhere (on Gbatemp) that RxTools don't support 2.51 kernel. Since I have replaced this one with Luma3DS, will my EmuNAND be able to support future kernels (starting from 2.51), even if I don't have A9LH-ed my 3ds?
