So in the past, like 6 months ago I tried out both mplayer and geexbox and wasn't too happy with either, but it seems both have had a TON of unofficial releases since then. Do either of them do a decent job of reading files like .avi from the SD yet and play smoothly? Also which seems to be the fan favorite at this point in time, it seemed mplayer was when I last tried, but things change often at this scene. Just looking for some user impressions/opinions.

Yep..I'm just watching LOST.avi with GeeXbox from USB. Basicly I can recommend this two here:

MPlayer
-DVD support (Data+Real)
-SDHC support

-Fails at USB
-No Full-Screen menu

GeeXbox
-Plays many files
-Visualiation for Music

-Sometimes slowdowns
-No SDHC support

Both play .avis perfect from SD, MPlayer even from SDHC...pick one or both. They are sooo much better than for six months...I would choose MPlayer when you don't need USB...the best solution, because he's stable like hell (not like GeeXbox...)!!!
