Gaming Playing DVDs with HDMI cables

Today I got the HDMI cables i ordered from Deal Extreme for my Xbox. So far everything seems good except for DVD playback. I have what I assume to be a standard definition DVD (Venture Bros season 2). When I play the movie, it only outputs at 4:3 rather then 16:9. My xbox never did this with component cables. Can someone help me out please. Thanks.

It depends if the DVD was made in 4:3, I have an ECW wrestling DVD that only plays in 4:3 no matter what...if you're sure it has 16:9, you know the little menu bar that appears when you play a DVD?, see if theres an option to switch screen modes. Hope this helped.
