Gaming Playing Debug (Proto) Discs on PS3?

I'm planning on purchasing a prototype PS3 game disc and that, of course, would require a debug PS3. So I was wondering, is it possible to play these discs on a normal PS3? I'm guessing that would likely require installing a CFW on the PS3, but I was just wondering if it was even possible to play these discs without the debug PS3.

I think they should run on DEX PS3's

However, I'm not sure of it meself as well.
