Wouldn't it be cool to have Pikimin on the DS? Is it even possible? I would love to play it on the DS.

Although I love this game on Gamecube.

I cannot see it being any good on DS. The screen is simply too small to be able to represent the size and numbers of Pikmin used in the game play.

I think it would have to be simplified far too much to remain true to the original.

I think it would be really hard to get all the pikmin on screen in a useable size. Lemmings DS only works because you can zoom.

Well they could put in a zoom in and out feature if they ever make it.

Try rendering 100 moving pikmin with the DS's hardware. Even really really low-poly pikmin. Just try it.

Of course they could give you less pikmin to work with but that'd just be dumb.

I guess your right but I wonder how they managed to make the game Robocaplse (wrong spelling I think) because thats a real time strategy.

There is no reason a Pikmin game couldn't be done well with a top down (or isometric) 2D view. The DS can easily handle several hundred sprites at once.

Right now the only thing coming out soon is the GCN pikimin redone with Wii controls, and currently only in Japan. "Pikmin 3" isn't coming out for a while.

Zoom only works on Lemmings DS because you only need to do it in specific areas for specific bursts. With Pikmin, you'd need to do it all the time.

You're quite on the money in that respect that the DS can't handle large amounts of character 3D models, but did you consider the world being 3D (and maybe Olimar and a few enemies) but the pikmin could be 2d sprites? That would work flawlessly and look really good if the sprites were animated well. The DS has a really great 2D processor and the 2d/3d hybrid games (like FF12RW) look really incredible. They also support insane amounts of 2D sprites onscreen at once. Just have a look:

The actual touch element would work really well too. You could have all the stats on the top screen and maybe a sun that moves across the sky up there. And of course, perhaps a map. The bottom screen could show all the action and the control scheme would work REALLY well too!

Wow.. I just had the exact same conversation with a friend the other day. [IMG]

We both agree that Pikimin DS would be amazing, but he was worried about the DS not being able to handle a game requiring that many 3D models.
Then I pointed out the 3D world/2D character sprites options.

Dammit it, Tempers, stop screwin' with mah head! [IMG]

the ds has the capabilitys to pull it off with hybrid 2d/3d but because of the limited size of the ds carts, you would loose all the scale, the game would be much shorter, and the pikmin less cute lol [IMG]

That made little sense. Lose the scale? What does that mean? The game was already short and has little to with the cartridge size. And the Pikmin less cute? If you mean less detailed, maybe. But I have every confidence in Miyamoto's design skills at 2D.

Well I bet that if this game was ever made they should work on it more to make the game good and not crappy like some other guys that were just put together randomly.
