Sony sticks are rubbish, especially large ones. Plus unless you mean two 8Gb MicroSD's you're not comparing like with like. And additionally as i mentioned in the other topic until you detail exactly which MicroSD's you're theoretically placing in the Photofast adapter this question is incomplete.

Here are some sample figures from real tests but not necessarily applicable to whichever mystery MicroSD's you're hypothetically using in your comparison:

Note the differing performances in the two set-ups across the change of block size.

tbh it all depends on the micro sd's you put in the photofast I have 2 8gb class 4 kingston micro sd's in my photofast and the read/write speeds are good enough for me, I've never had anything over 300mb take any more than a minute or 2.

and xist I love your reply to this topic

Then let me put it this way: do any two microSD cards (16gb) exist that are equal to or greater than the speed of that Sony memory stick?

I posted this in a thread months ago but here are some tests with my sticks
the sandisk cards are much faster then the sony cards from my experience

first the 32MB stick that comes with the PSP

As long as you have Class 6 they're fast. I have 2x 8GB Transcend Class 6, and it runs faster than my old Sony 2GB.

So you're asking if access to 32Gb (!) of memory through an adapter is faster/equivalent to direct access to a stick half the size. Assuming both are loaded do you really need to ask this question?

Who on earth needs a 32Gb stick anyway? Mr ADHD?

I carry around most of my music, a ton of books, lots of maps, some videos for my kid, and probably half a dozen games

it's not that hard to fill up 25+ gb of space (none of it even pirated)

In that instance i'd go for a selection of 4Gb sticks...one for games, one for movies and one for miscellaneous.

Ultimately it falls down to optimising for speed or size. If you want the best speeds you're generally not going to find them on those 16 or 16+ Gb options you mention. If you want guaranteed fast access get a 4Gb Sandisk Ultra II Pro Duo.

read speeds are well over 10mb/s on my photofast

it's just write speeds that are a tad slow

I dunno, I'm guessing the slight delay in read on the huge cards is a LOT shorter than it takes you to eject the old card, put it in its holder, pull out a new card and insert it

it also probably costs less to buy 2x sdhc microsd cards and 1 photofast, then the equivalent in 4 or 8gb mem sticks

Depends where you live...plus the write speed on a 32Gb amalgam would probably be terrible in comparison.

who cares about the write speed?

It just means it'll take you 4 minutes to initially load a game onto the card, rather than 2 minutes

after that, you'd never know the difference

My 8gb sony mark 2 Pro Duo card reads games like DJMAX and Monster Hunter FU faster than my Photofast does.

XMB loads slower with my Photofast.
But I really think it's my 16 and 8 gb microSD cards that are slow, class 4...

No other problems so far. I love the convinience.
